#victorianfebruary Day27: "Tradition".
Living tradition in Telemark, Norway:
Folk costumes worn in the 1880's or 1890's.
The man is wearing a "gråtrøye" (grey jacket) with black breeches, both made from homespun. His daughter is wearing a "beltestakk" (belt skirt) in a finer woolen quality. The beltestakk may be ca. 4,5 m up to 5,5 m wide, with a broad border made from homespun covered with velvet: that makes a heavy skirt, too heavy for the tiny bodice attached to it, so the weight is carried by the long, broad belt, wound tightly around the waist +÷three times.
