My mama always says, travel together with Jo or don't at all. Nobody gets left behind. Brilliant advice and one of the best investments we've made. Sure Jo won't remember the landmarks and masterpieces but bringing her is a simple but direct way of communicating to her that she's important to us. In return, we get to experience the world through her eyes (not a dull moment, even layovers are adrenalin-filled๐Ÿ˜‰). Travel teaches her first hand not to fear differences but to celebrate it. We learn from her too because she embraces other cultures beautifully with no prejudice and no reserve. She's the absolute best icebreaker.๐Ÿ˜Š On our trips, everyone learns flexibility, respect, appreciation, tolerance for others and for each other. The perks are brilliant: it's cheaper than travelling when she's older and we get VIP treatment with special queues, free dessert and smiles from almost everyone we come across.๐Ÿ˜„ Childhood will be over before you know it. So parents, let's make the most of those numbered summers together.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ #travelwithkids #family #familytrip #familytime #ontheroad #familyvacation #familyholiday #travel #travellers #toddlersofinstagram #toddlerlife #instakids #earlylearning #parenting #siena #tuscany #italy #ig_italy #travelgram #latepost #day10

I remember watching Discovery Atlas a couple of years back and being amazed at the lives of Italian jockeys, gondoliers, designers, freedivers. I never imagined I'd actually set foot on their stage. Presenting the Piazza del Campo, Siena's shell-shaped medieval square and home of Il Palio - Italy's most famous and passionate horse race. The race happens twice a year but the backstreets lined with contrade (neighborhood) flags and iron horse-tethering rings show that is an integral part of the community all year round. ๐ŸŽ #siena #piazzadelcampo #ilpalio #medieval #redbrick #architecture #tuscany #italy #ig_italy #roadtrip #familytime #citycenter #view #horseracing #jockeys #day10 #latepost #jordanvictoriaadis

First stop on our Tuscan roadtrip was the medieval city of Siena and it's Romanesque-Gothic cathedral which was built on the city's highest point. The inside of God's house was a masterpiece too, from its white and greenish black marble-striped walls (the symbolic colors of Siena - from the legendary black and white horses of the city's founder Senius and Aschius) to it's marble mosaic floor of biblical scenes that spans the entire cathedral. #siena #cathedral #church #tuscany #italy #architecture #marble #stripes #gothic #familytrip #familytime #italianlandscapes #ig_italy #roadtrip #topofthehill #day10 #latepost #jordanvictoriaadis

Faced with finding a car rental place that would believe that our country was delayed in issuing driver's license cards ๐Ÿ˜ฉ and a maze of ZTL's (restricted traffic zones), we managed to rustle up a Smart ForFour and sped off for the rolling hills of southern Tuscany.๐Ÿš˜ #sangimignano #vineyard #tuscany #rollinghills #italy #italianlandscapes #southerncharm #underthetuscanclouds #roadtrip #sky #clouds #smartcar #familytrip #familytime #day10 #latepost #jordanvictoriaadis

Despite the 13-14 hours of light each day, we'd still end up walking home late at night. Florence was a bright and beautiful playground and like Jo, we felt like going to sleep early should not be an option. #florence #tuscany #italy #italianlandscapes #nightout #evenings #day9 #jordanvictoriaadis #latepost #travel #travelgram #familytrip #street #streetshot #nightscape #latenights #architecture #citylights #cityscape #nighttime

Still managed to catch the late light shining on the Arno River and the Ponte Santa Trinita from Florence's beloved bridge - the Ponte Vecchio. At dusk, the bridge is alive with tourists, locals, art and jewelry shops that look like wooden chests after closing, street performers and the tinkle of water from famous goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini's fountain-monument. This bridge also supports the the Medici family's Vasari Corridor, that allowed exclusive access from the Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti. #pontevecchio #italianlandscapes #florence #tuscany #italy #arno #river #bridge #dusk #sunset #travel #travelgram #familytrip #jordanvictoriaadis #day9 #latepost #discovertuscany #passegiata

It's a clean, lean, tilting machine!๐Ÿ˜ณ Breaking ground in 1173, the Leaning Tower took 199ย years to build. It's the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta that rises next to it in the Square of Miracles. The square also houses the largest baptistry in Italy and the Campo Santo (the "holy field" or cemetery) which is said to have been built around a shipload of sacred soil from Calgary. The tower has 8 stories, including the chamber for the bells, which has 7 bells - each representing a note of the musical major scale. A fascinating fact is that at one point, with the addition of the 4th-7th stories, the tower's center of gravity changed and the tilt actually shifted from a northward direction to it's current southern. The famous "lean" (5.5 degrees at it's max) was due to a shallow foundation and Pisa's soft subsoil which was too unstable to support the building.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น #leaningtowerofpisa #leaningtower #tower #pisa #ig_pisa #tuscany #toscana #italy #italia #ig_italia #italianlandscapes #beautifuldestinations #traveltheworld #travelgram #familyfun #familytrip #amazingplaces #day9 #jordanvictoriaadis #latepost #discovertuscany

I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day. - Van Gogh
The Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral or as the locals know it, the Duomo, was built on top of a small church called the Santa Reparata which was built between the 4th-6th centuries. It has the largest masonry dome in the world and almost the size of half a football field across at the base. It stands over 10 stories high and is the largest masonry structure in the world. #firenze #florence #tuscany #duomo #cathedral #dome #fleurdelis #jordanvictoriaadis #monument #history #day8 #discovertuscany

The largest amphitheatre ever built, the Colosseum could hold an estimated 50-80 thousand spectators. It was used for gladiatorial contests, mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, dramas. The best thing was that all ancient romans had free entry for events, and were also fed throughout the spectacles. Spent way too long at the magical Spiaggia Grande (large beach) in Positano, with the fog creeping down, running around barefoot and satisfying our sea-craving. One of my favorite destinations on this trip with its narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes and the amphitheater of villas on the hillsides of Monte Commune and Monte Sant'Angelo and the dome of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta standing guard over the pebble beach. Another plus is the abundance of lemons (drink a granita or limoncello) for that vitamin C boost after the wet and cold.๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‹ #jordanvictoriaadis #positano #italianlandscapes #amalficoast #ig_italia #instagramitalia #lemons #limoncello #granita #spiaggia #pebblebeach #orange #sea #beach #bestvacations #beautifuldestinations #villas #coast #southernitaly #bestplacestogo #day7

Breathing in ancient dust and Mt. Vesuvius ash at the walled city of Pompeii. The objects that lay beneath the city have been preserved for more than a millennium because of the lack of air and moisture. These provided an extraordinarily detailed insight during the Pax Romana. During the excavation, plaster was used to fill in the voids in the ash layers that once held human bodies. This allowed archaeologists to see the exact position the person was in when he or she died. #pompeii #ashes #volcano #eruption #history #jordanvictoriaadis #sunburn #init #speedtouring #dust #naples #pompeiiruins #vesuvius #day7

Ecstatic over our Di Matteo loot of pizza margherita, pizza fritte, croquette and arancini... we couldn't say no to a slice of history๐Ÿ˜œ They say the pizza was created in Naples in 1889 by the famous Neopolitan chef Raffaele Esposito who made a tomato, basil and cheese pizza (resembling the Italian flag) for King Umberto and Queen Margherita of Italy. His pizza was then named after the queen and became the standard for all modern pizzas. #jordanvictoriaadis #naples #italy #piazzasangaetano #centrostorico #napoli #italia #visititalia #pizza #palazzovenezia #italianfood #iloveitaly #food #day7
