#repost from @thisispattismith READ THESE PROFOUND WORDS BY PATTI:
This is a red poppy, taken by Robert Mapplethorpe. It seems to bend in meditative sorrow.
The poppy, associated with Armistice Day, is worn in remembrance of all the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in war. All those young lives, leaving behind a sea of blood.
One hundred years ago Armistice was signed. The end of war. Yet we churn out weapons and revel in Nationalism.
Would that all weapons were laid in the earth and a million poppies sewn. Red, as far as the eye could see, but requiring the blood of none.
