On March 19, 2018 Paula-Mae Weekes was sworn in as the President of Trinidad and Tobago. Weekes is the 6th President and first female to hold the title. She received a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of the West Indies and later graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School. She worked in the office of Public Prosecutions for 11 years before going into private practice. She was appointed to the judiciary in 1996 and the Court of Appeals in 2005. In 2016 Weekes was appointed to the Court of Appeals in Turks and Caicos.
