Mental Health - it is a scary issue to talk about, but one that needs to be brought up more in conversation. Suicide in Canada is the second largest cause of death for those who are 15-25 years old and takes 11 lives per day. The more shocking statistic is that ever 40 seconds 1 person commits suicide globally.
BUT... what about university students in Canada?
Students are the most vulnerable to suffer from depression and suicidal thoughts, the support systems are not there to help them and school staff often do not have the resources they need to help these individuals. The numbers... - for every 1 student who commits suicide, 25 will attempt.
We need to talk. We need to ask. We need to help. - Suicide is a silent killer. So the next time you see someone who seems down, empty, or depressed - ask “are you thinking of killing yourself?” Talking is the only thing that will help those in need.
