Doctor Dan Dangerous  Specialists in the field of costumes and props worn and used by Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor

It is with a degree of regret we must announce that this account will no longer be posting from today. Despite the account being owned by two people, neither of us has the time to make detailed posts like we'd hoped. However there are several blogs out there on the net which you can always check out instead. Thank you.

The new Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.

Series 9 introduced a whole new wardrobe for Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor, far less formal than that seen in Series 8. The first variant of the series was that seen in "The Magicians Apprentice"/"The Witches Familiar". It consisted of a new custom made Navy coat with red lining, a distressed AllSaints Mode Merino Ink hoodie, Label Lab 'Misty Mountain' T-Shirt, A Dust Pink henley from H&M, custom made Wool plaid pleated trousers and a new belt. This two parter would also be the last appearance of the Loake brogues from S8. The coat was made from a very soft Camelhair fabric from Harrisons Of Edinburgh, lined with a plain red black shot silk (also from Harrisons) and was cut by renowned Soho tailor, Chris Kerr. One other small detail is that where the S8 coat had 5 black cuff buttons, the S9 coat had 4 plus a bright red button. The T-Shirt was made by Label Lab but bought from House Of Fraser and it too had some light distressing (a couple of cuts at the bottom). The Henley had some modifications made to it - the buttons were cut away and it was sewn 2/3 of the way up. The trousers were also made by Chris Kerr and only 2 pairs were ever made as very little fabric was left on the roll. It featured pleats and the trademark one inch cuffs. #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmit

The next costume variant worn by the Twelfth Doctor in his first festive special "Last Christmas" was one that would shape the Twelfth Doctor's wardrobe for the rest of his tenure. It was essentially the "Listen" costume with a Black hoodie thrown into the mix. It would mark the end of Howard Burden's time on the show before he was replaced by the excellent Ray Holman who'd previously done costumes on Matt Smith's debut series and will also be doing costuming for series 11! With this outfit being an established S8 costume with the exception of the hoodie - you had all the usual components. The hoodie is from the 2014 Mode Merino range at AllSaints. This particular one is sold out now but AllSaints still do a Black in their Merino range but with a different zipper and altered logo. The original does pop up on eBay from time to time. #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmith

Now that the heatwave has passed, lets talk about a sadly short lived outfit worn by the Twelfth Doctor. Episode 9 "Flatline" introduced what some would recognise as the definitive Twelve costume. Its essentially the Deep Breath/Into the Dalek variation but a touch more formal thanks to a rather lovely waistcoat. The story behind which, is rather interesting. When Howard Burden was designing Capaldi's coat, it was from a much darker navy wool/cashmere fabric - so much darker that it appeared to be Black. Burden opted not to use that fabric and along came the lighter navy that ended up being used to cut several "hero" coats (I think there were 3 or 4 made and used in total). Instead of letting the darker fabric going to waste - it was used to cut the waistcoats (naturally i'd assume there was more than one of these as well). Its a very basic cut and features two pocket welts if i'm not mistaken, it has a 5 button closure and the buttons used were 15mm real horn. It is lined with a plain red silk. The fabric being from @wbill1846 is long gone but the buttons are still available from The Lining Company. Magnoli Clothiers also do a very good replica! #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmith

Moving onwards and temporarily skipping both "Time Heist" and "The Caretaker" - we hit "Kill The Moon". The primary outfit for Kill The Moon was the bright orange spacesuit used in series 2's "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" and Series 7's "Hide". However, another outfit was present for the prologue and epilogue of the episode. This consisted of the Navy crombie styled coat seen throughout series 8, the Paul Smith navy reverse pleat trousers, M&S Belt and the Loake boots. Also present was a rather lovely shirt! This shirt was once again custom made and consisted of a twill pattern and white Polka dots on a black background. The original fabric was specially printed for Doctor Who by Joel & Son. The shirt itself was cut once again by Budd Shirtmakers who were responsible for the standard Soyella white shirt and was cut to exactly the same specifications. I believe Joel & Son still have stock of this fabric in the correct Black but it is rather on the expensive side clocking in at around £90 per metre. Budd do take on bespoke custom commissions and so if you wanted to go all out accurate - you could do so for a big price. With that said - you could also get a very accurate replica from Magnoli Clothiers who've replicated the pattern exceptionally well. Of course if you want to cosplay this variant on a tighter budget - you have the option of buying a standard french cuff Polka Dot shirt from the likes of eBay! #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmith

"Listen" saw quite the departure from the usual wardrobe of the Twelfth Doctor and a step into a new territory of costuming. This variant would pop up again in the final "standalone" episode of series 8 and one final brief appearance in the final scene of the final episode. Much like Robot Of Sherwood, the fundamental components remained the same but dropped the formal likes of a shirt or waistcoat and was replaced by a jumper. This jumper was part of Paul Smith's autumn 2013 range and was known for its woven pattern of holes covering the circumfrence, its unusual neckline and the sliced cuffs. It quickly became known as the "holes jumper" or "holey jumper". The jumper is/was made of merino wool and was available in several colours including Black, Salmon and i believe white was also a colour option at the time of sale. The jumper is long since sold out and is one of the rarest items to find anywhere - if not THE rarest. It is always accompanied by a long sleeve white crew neck undershirt which if my research is correct, came from H&M. Naturally i'd assume this is also gone. #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmith

'Robot Of Sherwood' saw the Twelfth Doctor adopt a lighter, more weather friendly outfit choice. The fundamental components of the costume remained the same : Coat, trousers, boots and belt. However instead of the bespoke Budd Shirt and Smedley cardigan, we saw Capaldi don a purple Paul Smith "Byard" shirt. This is a fairly basic cotton shirt with a standard collar and buttoned cuffs. However it did have one distinct feature which was that the inside of the cuffs contained a floral lining. Black with a white pattern, this is fairly common with Paul Smith shirts. Unfortunately this particular shirt is no longer available but it was known as the "Paul Smith classic formal shirt in Purple". As it stands, its very hard to find any plain purple shirt from Paul Smith so you'd probably have to settle for a non PS shirt if you're wanting to cosplay this particular outfit variant. #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #PaulSmith

We apologise for the skewered pictures of the Shirt and Loake boots from the previous post - we'll try and make sure we use the highest quality photos from now on.

The first official costume worn by the Twelfth Doctor was the one first glimpsed in the "100% Rebel Time Lord" promotional shot in early 2014. This particular combination of dark colours was seen only in the last five minutes of the first episode of series 8 and the entirety of the second. The outfit combination is that of a custom Crombie styled coat, a white shirt with an extended collar, a John Smedley Cardigan, Paul Smith reverse pleated trousers and Black leather brogues by Loake shoemakers. The coat was made using a Navy blue wool & cashmere blend fabric which if my research is correct came from W Bill but is long since sold out. The red lining is similarly sold out and i'm fairly sure it came from "UK Textiles" on goldhawk road in London. It was buttoned with matte black real horn buttons, five 15mm cuff buttons and three 23mm front closure buttons. The shirt was custom made by Budd Shirtmakers for Peter Capaldi and is made from a rich Soyella fabric. Budd now offer the same shirt with the same specifications on their website in both standard and tailored fits. The cardigan as i said was from John Smedley and is/was known as the "Cavendish" cardigan but was later replaced by a custom waistcoat. It is sold out. The trousers were made by Paul Smith and contained details of reversed pleats and a one inch turn up at the cuffs. I'm fairly certain they weren't commercially sold but Paul Smith now offer a pair identical in fabric and general cut but will require tailoring for the additions of the cuffs and the pleats reversed. Lastly the boots. They were made by Loake and are smooth leather Black Brogues. Astonishingly they are still available from Loake even now but at a cost of £245 at last check. Extra detail - the cufflinks worn with the shirt are said to be from Brooklinde Jewellery store but at a cost of £185. Welcome to CapaldiCostuming! We're fans of the variety of costumes worn by Peter Capaldi and designed by Howard Burden, Ray Holman and Hayley Nebauer respectively during Peter's time in the role which is sadly coming to and end this christmas. Our purpose on this platform is to give an insight into how these outfits came together from fabrics, to buttons, to the cutting and the stitching that goes into making the exceptional garments worn by the outgoing time lord and who knows, you might just learn a thing or two. We hope to help those who want to build a cosplay of a certain Twelfth Doctor outfit or maybe even a cosplay of Peter Capaldi himself as his everyday sense of fashion is growing ever more popular. We may or may not contact you asking if we can repost a photo that we like or we'd like to "promote" for lack of a better word and we hope you enjoy our content! #PeterCapaldi #Costumes #Tailoring #Bespoke #ChrisKerr #HowardBurden #RayHolman #HayleyNebauer #Loake #DrMarten #PaulSmith #CrombieCoat #Wool #Cashmere #Woven #Navy #Fabric #Accurate #ScreenAccurate #Cosplay #Costuming #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoCosplay #Velvet #Camelhair #JohnSmedley #Midnight #Cavendish #Brogues #ReversePleats
