When we see these big, bright blooms, we know that it's time to bid farewell to spring and say hello to a hot, dry summer.ย  What natural signals tell you that the seasons are changing?

Summer means it's road trip time! Today we're sharing some history from our archives for #ArchivesRoadTrip. This photo from a trip in Lavender Canyon came with a caption:

"Upper Lavender Canyon, about 20 miles from mouth, near Cleft Arch. Our 1950 Jeep, beds above, roll out kitchen below with Coleman stove, sink, icebox, storage space for dishes, silver, pans, some food, etc. Second parallel steel rollered drawer for cameras, main food stores, clothing, etc. We used it for 6 years from the Sierras and Death Valley, Point Lobos to the Oregon Coast, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico. Utah was the most and the best. A few thousand black & white negatives, and acres of color. Cleft arch about 1/2 mile up canyon through opening on the right." --

Allium textile is in bloom here in the Needles! "Allium" is Latin for "garlic," which refers to the strong odor this flower sometimes has. While the smell might be unpleasant to some, the flower more commonly known as Wild Onion is lovely to see.

Is that the sun or the moon? This is actually a night shot. The moon is rising. Leave your shutter open long enough, and you see more light than the naked eye can. Stars appear, and the moon casts a lot more light on the image. ...
This month, we're encouraging you to Find Your Park - After Dark! There are lots of great stargazing and night photography spots in America's national parks. You can join rangers here at Canyonlands, an International #DarkSky Park, for stargazing programs at various times during the summer. [NPS Photo by @ecogden ]

Why do they call it Island in the Sky? Our rangers have found out the last few mornings. [๐Ÿ“ท: NPS/Marsh]

Rangers gathered at the MIC to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canyonlands Natural History Association. CNHA operates the MIC and visitor center bookstores and has been a valuable partner in supporting public lands in southeast Utah.

Rangers at The Needles had some eclipse fun with a colander and a ranger hat. Where did you watch?

@Regrann from @usinterior - The Needles forms the southeast corner of #Canyonlands National Park in #Utah and was named for the colorful spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone that dominate the area. Hiking trails offer many opportunities for long-day hikes and overnight trips, while foot trails and four-wheel-drive roads lead to such features as Tower Ruin, Confluence Overlook, Elephant Hill, the Joint Trail and Chesler Park (pictured here). @canyonlandsnps ๐Ÿ“ธ : @ecogden, #NationalPark Service. #usinterior #findyourpark

Saturday afternoon rain clouds glide above Green River Overlook.

A recent storm brought snow and a canvas for the setting sun to paint.
