It's time for my final post in the Takeover of @bwphotomag , and I thought you might like to see a selection from my recent "Fading From View" series.
The portraits are of endangered Big Cats, and the idea behind the series is for us to imagine the last animal of a species walking away from us into a forest or open plain, eventually literally fading from view, into extinction, and as if these images were some of the last ever photographs taken of that species.
The series was in part influenced by rare photographs of extinct animals such as the Quagga - a subspecies of zebra that lived in South Africa until the late 1880s, where it was hunted to extinction - and the thought that one day we might see the same happen for animals we're all familiar with, such as the African Lion or Sumatran Tiger.
The Big Cats featured here are, left to right: African Lion, Puma, Eurasian Lynx, White Bengal Tiger, Sumatran Tiger and Snow Leopard.
A very big thanks to B+W Photography Magazine for inviting me to take over their Instagram feed, and to you the readers for your interest in my photography.
And best of luck to those submitting to #bpoty2018 !
Goodnight - Paul
