REVIEW:

The Lion King: International Tour
The Theatre at Solaire

A perfect example of classic tradition meets the textures of a contemporary adaptation, giving the audience the nostalgia from that 1994 classic film we have always loved, brushed with an innovative production that’s raw, grounded, and modern.

The Lion King Musical wasn’t just about the razzle dazzle. Yes, its art direction and costume design were impeccably done, spewing with an unparalleled imaginative force as to how the almost-impossible sequences of the film translate seamlessly on stage. But more than that, the storytelling stayed true to the narrative we all know too well (several parts of the film’s screenplay were almost verbatim to that of the script). Beyond the glitter, the show gave a sense of familiarity that you will just fall in love with no matter what.
The first production number — The Circle of Life — perhaps is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen on stage. It’s just too good, it’s almost electric.

The cast is divine — particularly Antony Lawrence, Jamie McGregor, Pierre van Heard, and André Jewson as Scar, Timon, Pumba and Zazu respectively. The commitment to their characters were (pride) rock solid, and they definitely knew how to feed the audience with laughs and spontaneity. Oh, and shoutout to the eccentric, too-cool ensemble of hyenas! 🤟
Overall, The Lion King: International Tour is one of the most beautiful things I have ever laid eyes on. It’s intimate, vibrant and simply crazy gorgeous.

Do yourself a favor and don’t miss this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #thelionkinginternationaltour #thelionkingmanila

The funniest thing about getting older is realizing your capacity to change, despite fearing everything about it. It is when it dawns into you how beautiful it is to just let bygones be bygones, and accept things that you have no control of. It is when you realize that you're way more powerful than you think you are in having the essential skill of wisely choosing your battles, and eventually discerning the things that actually matter. It is with getting older that you slowly but surely realize what your real valuables are -- your family, your true friends, your love, and your passion.
It's crazy how I have always thought about not being able to get through the idea of adaptability and conformity, when life naturally shows you how our spirits are specifically designed to adapt and conform. I have always feared change. At the back of my head, I've always thought that I will never get out of that 10-year-old kid refusing to accept criticism and responsibility; that 18-year-old boy who thought he knew it all, who condescends to every opinion and judgment that contradicts his; that 24-year-old who felt like the world revolves around him, and yada yada yada. Funny how we outgrow from it all.

What a wonderful way of getting a little older and a little wiser. 😃 Surround yourself with people who matter to you, and you to them. Thank you, for the 28 years and counting.
