The economic differences between Hoover and FDR:

Eleanor Roosevelt was the wife of Franklin Roosevelt and First Lady. She was an extreme advocate of liberal causes and became an early civil rights advocate for the United Nations. During her husbands presidency, Eleanor held her own press conferences, wrote news articles, and traveled to all parts of the country to speak about her liberal ideals.

The Brain Trust was a term coined by New York Times reporter James Kieran that labeled FDR’s group of academic advisors to assist him during his presidency.

The 100 day reform was Franklin Roosevelt’s first 100 Days as president. During this period he offered millions of jobs and hope to the unemployed by making multiple programs that were part of his “New Deal”. Creating these jobs and programs, his goal was to ultimately re-stimulate the economy.

The Court Packing Scheme was a nickname given by journalist to the unsuccessful Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937 that was proposed by FDR to increase the number of Supreme Court justices from 9 to 15 to make the government more efficient. Critics immediately accused him of trying to neutralize the Court so that the New Deal Process would not be hindered.

In 1933, the 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment (ratified in 1919) and made the drinking, manufacturing, and the selling of alcohol legal again. During the depression, the potential jobs and tax revenue from the legalization was attractive to the struggling American people.

The 20th amendment is an amendment that sets the date at which federal government elected offices end. It’s also defined who succeeds the president if the president dies. The nickname for the 20th amendment is the lame duck amendment and it was ratified on January 23, 1933.

The purpose of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was to enable the Federal Government to develop and distribute “hydroelectric” electricity into rural areas that were in extreme poverty. The aims of the TVA were to build a dam that would bring electricity to rural areas, which would improve the economic and social lives of the region. This also provided many jobs, irrigation, controlling floods and forest fires, and developing new agricultural methods.
