Éirinn go Brách

So much Irish. Kansas City has the 5th largest St. Patrick's Day Parade...with over 200,000 attendees. The first St. Paddy's Day Parade here was in 1873. Ten percent of Kansas Citians claim Irish heritage. Pretty impressive for a mid-sized midwestern city.

My 16%, and my son's 33% (yes, he is more Irish than me), Irish blood were celebrating!

The Budding Photographer, Part II

Proud of this kiddo... Took awesome shots, and took great care of one of my prized possessions!

Budding Photographer, Part I

My kiddo (@evanmander2010) and I went to the St. Patrick's Day Parade today. He has taken an interest in photography and wanted to snap a few pictures with my Canon. I let him after careful instruction, and the kid is a natural! This shot is quite remarkable.

He asked me for an Instagram. After some consideration, I'm allowing it but am the one who is solely monitoring and posting the pictures *he* takes. He lines up the shot, and snaps the picture, I may or may not edit as I see fit with his approval, until he gets the hang of it. He also captions it. His account is on lock-down and private until he knows the good, bad and ugly of social media.

The Heart of the Machine

Life Imitating Art

Every weekend, I wake up to the kiddo telling me, "I have a great idea for breakfast..." Sometimes it's homemade pancakes or waffles, sometimes it's donuts from Lamar's , this morning it was IHOP. So, on this cold snowy Kansas City morning - which I'm less than thrilled about - we all made a trek to IHOP for a yummy breakfast.

San Diego, you were beautiful...
... back in January.

Oh, hey there, Tiny Chicago!

Saved by Omaha

The nature of the beast with nonrev (standby) travel is figuring out how to get where you need to go... Omaha saved my butt again. Our flight was full getting back home to Kansas City, so the next best option was to catch a flight to Omaha, rent a car through our discounts, and drive 2½ hours south to Kansas City. This is the 2nd time in less than a year that I've had to have Omaha save me. Worth it...especially when you gotta work the next day.

We sort of got lost in Kentucky this weekend, and got creeped out when we stumbled upon this small town that looked like the Kentucky version of Silent Hill.

Good morning, San Diego! Thanks for the last couple days and memories! You've been most enjoyable!

The Little Boy and the Pacific

Going from 35° back home to 75° in San Diego in late January...we had to go to the beach. Evan has been *on* the ocean, but never on a beach. Weird, right? But we boarded a cruise ship a few years ago, so we didn't get any beach time then. But yesterday, on Evan's must do list was go to the beach. And that we did. Freezing water, but the look on his face was priceless and watching him run around and play in the sand was unforgettable.
