Brainfood  DC non-profit that uses the power of food to engage, empower, and employ DC teens and young adults.

Help us celebrate a group of talented, generous, smart, positively gregarious teens who've been busy teaching hands-on cooking workshops this spring! A little goes a long way-- and we'd love nothing more than to throw a well-earned celebration for all of our Brainfood students in the coming months. Will you help us? Click the link in our bio to give a few dollars and learn more about what students have accomplished this year at Brainfood.

We're proud to see Ryan (left), grow from an eager and talented Brainfood participant while in high school to an entrepreneur in DC's evolving food scene. And check out @vill.age to learn more about their vision and how you can support it!

A watched pot might never boil, but waiting is a lot better when you've got a squad like this. May your week be filled with good food and good people!

Last weekend our cooking coaches led a workshop at the @learnserve social action summit, and tomorrow you can finding them teaching about healthy cooking at #rootingdc! Come on down to Wilson high school for an awesome, free, all day urban gardening forum.

This week marked the beginning of our food systems unit for our Cooks in Training, and they started by following the journey of different strawberries! The fresh, frozen, and preserved berries all represented different food systems- either local, regional, or global- and were featured in our 3 recipes. While eating the delicious strawberry feta spinach salad, lemon strawberry muffins, and chocolate jam bars, students presented on their strawberries' journey to the Brainfood kitchen and important information to consider about different food systems. Where does your food come from?

An update for our followers, friends, and supporters: Brainfood Homegrown is taking a short break from our usual operations. Thanks everyone for your support, for visiting us at the Union Market stand, and for being with us on our quest for the perfect spent grain granola recipe. We're so so grateful, and we hope you stay tuned for what's next.

And many thanks to @darden_creative for the beautiful photography.

For the love of salad! This week our Cooks in Training students learned about tossed, composed, and bound salads, while trying some new recipes and making creative creations of their own! They learned the formula for creating a basic #vinaigrette dressing, made homemade #mayonnaise, and tried authentic Caesar salad, complete with #anchovies in the dressing! What's your favorite #salad?!
