Books on Toast  Official Insta for Books On Toast! We talk about books a LOT.

(ANOTHER) FLASH GIVEAWAY: In incandescent prose, award-winning novelist Jeet Thayil tells the story of Newton Francis Xavier, blocked poet, serial seducer of young women, reformed alcoholic (but only just), philosopher, recluse, all-round wild man and India’s greatest living painter. At the age of sixty-six, Xavier, who has been living in New York, is getting ready to return to the land of his birth to stage one final show of his work. As we accompany Xavier and his partner and muse ‘Goody’ on their unsteady and frequently sidetracked journey from New York to New Delhi, we meet a host of memorable characters and are also given unforgettable (and sometimes unbearable) insights into love, madness, poetry, sex, painting, saints, death, God and the savagery that fuels all great art. .

*GIVEAWAY CLOSED!* This quick read by Nayantara Sahgal (google her if you don't know who she is) is a dystopian satire that honestly can be a bit unnerving because it really speaks to our times. .

Anuya and Sharin are back at it again - this time, discussing 2018’s Man Booker Longlist a day before the shortlist is announced. They had some feelings about the books and also they tried guessing which ones would make it to the shortlist. Watch to find out where they stand? .

Poonachi by Perumal Murugan is often heralded as India's Animal Farm. The book is a commentary on our times, on unequal hierarchies of class and colour, and the increasing vulnerabilities of individuals who choose to speak up rather than submit to the vagaries of an ambitious if incompetent state. .

This book is longlisted for @thejcbprize. To know more about the book, check out our stories/JCB Prize Highlight or listen to our translated literature BoTcast. .

Will you be reading this book and joining the #JCBReadingChallenge? Tell us which 5 books will make it to the shortlist (October 3) and one lucky winner gets the chance to come with us to the Awards Ceremony in Delhi in the last week of October. .

Chudiyaan by @itisriti is a spoken word piece in Hindustani about gender nonconformity, letting go of inhibitions and being who you are, starring @madhuri_jaysharma, who essays the character in Sriti’s piece.

Our favourite - @vivekisms spoke about Giovanni's Room in our LGBT books episode. (Link in bio). This is what he had to say about it - "It still remains till date one of my favourite books. Everybody should read it - if you're confused or if you want to figure what they are or who they are. So the book is about an older man falling in love with a younger man in Paris on a vacation. It's very intense. James Baldwin has written this book so beautifully that you should just read it for the prose." .

Fun fact - Deepa Mehta, spoke about the same book in our interview with them. LINK IN BIO again. Because of course. Aur kahan hoga? .

Turns out @sharinb doesn’t give too many f*cks about ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck’. And neither should you! Here are some other books you can read instead of this f*ckall book. (sorry, we have a lot of emotions with regards to this book)

The genius of @aksharpathak strikes again. It was Roald Dahl's birthday yesterday, but it took us one whole day to recover from this post.
