Old injuries or niggles are the worst! So instead of just β€˜pushing through’ and making it worse like I used to, I try and find alternatives variations of exercises I love. I’ve had issues with my lower back before and find the seated cable row can sometimes put too much pressure on it. The variation of the row I am doing in the video is perfect because I can’t load my lower back but can left heavy because my feet are locked in place because of the downwards pulling motion of the cable
.
The last few reps are a little sloppy and you can see the tension lessoning on my back as I stretch it (because I was ffaarrrkkkeeeddd) but you get the picture
.

Me, my brothers and sister couldn’t look, act, sound or enjoy more different things if we tried. So as you can imagine trying to get a group photo is beyond difficult and this was the best of the lot (featuring my nephews little butt while he danced on the table)

But the one common trait that bonds us through and through is our loyalty when it comes to each other. To family. As different as we may be our loyalty and love for each other keeps us close. Supportive, encouraging and understanding of one another. I know no matter what, these people will always have my back, keep me grounded and remind me who I am, I am loved and that I am bloody blessed to have these crazy kids as my mains

Today more than ever I needed this. Today more than ever these three came through with the goods, made my heart happy and picked me right back up without even knowing I needed it

My top tip to reduce the risk of rebounding post comp, specially if you’ve had a binge eating tendency in the past is to NOT hoard post comp treats (like I have done every single past show to date)
.
While I’m prepping I find it fun to buy things I’m craving or looks yummy and say it’s a post show treat. It’s almost like an obsession buying stuff I can’t have, which isn’t a healthy behaviour at all, I know. It always tends to get a little excessive - as you can see by the photo πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ«πŸŽ‚
.
For my next show I’ll buy one treat for my post show and I’ll buy it the week leading into it so I’m not tempted to change my mind and justify buying more treats. This will completely take away any ease of β€˜pigging out’ for days to come after my show because I would have to make an active effort to go and buy more treats if I want them and I’ll be able to talk some sense into my body and cravings or make healthier choices to refeed my body. Last show I even got to a point where I would justify the eating of the treats I had accumulated because β€˜they needed to be eaten so they were gone’
.
Obviously the frame of mind you are in leading up to a show and post show can have a huge impact on this as well, but for me I’m no longer going to put that temptation in the way. All I am doing is damaging my body time and time again. A sweet treat every now and then is fine, don’t get me wrong (80/20 rule) but devouring tens of thousands of processed and sugary calories after spending months looking after your body, eating clean, exercising and valuing yourself is never a good idea
.
Time and time again I have said I will control what I eat and go start back into reverse diet - but I never fully have. So next comp it’s a new approach and a proper focus on continuous health and nourishment for my body and not going over board with what I used to see as ideal sweet snacks to reward myself with. Remember - that chocolate bar or pack of biscuits will still be at the supermarket in a few months time, trust me
.
Has anyone else struggled with this? And do you have any other handy tips on sticking to the reverse side of diet once the glitz and glam of the show is over?

I almost pressed snooze this morning on my alarm. I almost convinced myself that I didn’t need to do cardio because I am sore and tired. I tried to decrease the time I was going to do and some how justify it. But I hardened TF up, skipped the snooze button and did exactly as I had planned for my Saturday morning. Why? Because I’m not here trying to be average, make excuses or go easy. I am here to push myself, change myself, be something more. Staying disciplined, motivated, hungry is a choice that is sometimes hard to stick to - but always remembered why you started and let that drive you on those groggy early morning wake ups

The weekend isn’t for skipping gym or going easy, it’s just like every other day. A day to kill it, another day closer to your goals. Another opportunity to pass everyone else that thinks weekends are a time to reward yourself with a sleep in and step back in your intensity. It all comes down to how bad you want it and how hard you’re willing to work, even when other people around you may not see it as important. It’s a solo sport - just you, your thoughts, your determination, you mindset. Every day is a chance to make yourself proud, push your limits right the weak thoughts and take another step closer to the version of yourself you have sitting in your head and heart that we are chasing. During my back and biceps session I was focusing on more isolated and single arm exercises. Like most people, one side of my body is stronger than the other. Doing a range of single arm exercises, like bent over dumbbell rows enables me to focus on building my symmetry and activating the muscles evenly, with out my stronger side over compensating. It’s always good to throw these types of exercises into your workouts. Especially if competiting is the aim because you don’t want to get on stage and have one side of your body noticibly bigger or more defined than the other. Symmetry and proportions are key πŸ”

This was such a great back and biceps session too. Weights are going back up, reps are getting cleaner and my motivation is skyrocketing πŸš€πŸ’―
