We are excited to announce the 2018 Hadley’s Art Prize has been awarded to Neil Haddon! Haddon’s winning piece titled “The Visit” depicts British author H.G. Wells cycling through a nominal ‘Tasmanian’ landscape. 2018 judge, Jane Stewart, described the piece as a “complex and accomplished painting that raises many questions about landscape, custodianship and contact history.” Congratulations Neil!

Huge congratulations to Neil Haddon on winning the $100,000, Hadley’s Art Prize 2018!!!! Very well deserved!

BETT GALLERY WELCOMES KATE BERGIN.
Bett Gallery is thrilled to announce the representation of acclaimed artist Kate Bergin. Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1992, Kate Bergin has explored the still life genre in her ongoing series of "Tabletop Variations". Highly sought after, with seven consecutive sell-out shows, Kate Bergin has established her reputation creating paintings where the exotic meets the everyday in a world that teeters on the edge of the possible.
Kate has had many solo exhibitions including sell out shows at Sydney Contemporary in 2015 and the Melbourne Art Fair in 2012. She has been selected as a Sulman Prize finalist at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1995, 2011 and 2013 and the winner of the 2010 Albany Art prize. In 1994 Margaret Olley gifted one of Kate's works to the Art Gallery of NSW.
Kate's debut exhibition with Bett Gallery is scheduled for 2019.

Battle of the Vines airs tonight on SBS Food Network Channel 33 8.30pm: Blind Tastings in search of Australia’s ‘best’ wine. Painters have good palettes. One of life’s strange twists is being a participant. On the upside - if run out of town because you hate it. We are on the move
After 18 years of operating in North Hobart, Bett Gallery is excited to announce that it is moving to the Hobart CBD.
Our new gallery space will be located on ‪Level 1 /65 Murray Street‬, Hobart part of a developing new central arts hub. It will establish the gallery for the next decade or more and will provide improved access and facilities for both artists and collectors.
The new space will allow us to exhibit two major exhibitions concurrently and give us excellent display and storage space.
Design of the purpose-built gallery is being undertaken by @core_collective, Hobart.
We will open our first exhibition in late July with exciting exhibitions of new work by national award winners Pat Brassington and Amanda Davies.
Our last day of trading at North Hobart will be ‪Saturday 26 May 2018‬. We remain trading online and continue to be contactable by email and phone throughout the renovation period. Please check our website for further information.

Self-portrait

This recent self-portrait is one in a series of new figurative paintings by Amanda Davies addressing the theme of decay and remedy, where the relationship between body, mind and emotion is heightened. ‘In response to a story where an elderly woman mistakenly applied toothpaste to her face instead of moisturiser, I put toothpaste on my face and washed it off numerous times,’ says Davies. ‘Toothpaste is very astringent. It gets in your eyes and it stings. Taking hundreds of self-timer photos, I felt numb, exhausted and relieved afterwards. This self-portrait is drawn from the end of that process and reveals a shifting emotional state between distress and relief.’
