The Finke River track is one of the best 4wd experiences I've had in Australia. The track starts just south of the MacDonnell Ranges and brings you out near Uluru and Kings Canyon. It's only around 100kms in length but you drive down the dry river bed and in between various gorges with a few waterholes to stop and camp at along the way. The Finke is believed to be over 100 million years old (with some parts over 340 million years old), making it the oldest river system in the world following its original course

In 1989, when I was 5 going on 6, our family spent half a year traveling around Australia. A lot of my favourite childhood memories came from that time and I always knew that one day I would do my own trip around oz. My Dad mentioned to me that the Kimberleys were by far his favourite part so we decided that he'd fly into Exmouth in WA and he would join me for that leg again, only 28 years later. All up we spent around 4 weeks together and I couldn't have asked for a better travel partner and person to learn from (he was head park ranger at Springbrook National Park for over 30 years). Sure, we may have wanted to kill each other on multiple occasions, but we had an incredible time together and it's an experience I'll cherish for the rest of my life. Love ya pops @mikehall4213

As I was getting ready for bed and setting up this time lapse, I remember constantly scanning the water for crocs with my torch. It's a strange feeling when you catch the reflection of their eyes with the light, knowing that an animal so large and terrifying is so close by. This night in particular I spotted maybe 3 sets of eyes in the billabong but one set in particular kept moving closer each time I would check and I eventually lost sight of him right when he got to the waters edge. It didn't take long to decide to sleep in the car and leave the camera for the night
