Benjamin  Lucks got nothin to do with it

Part 3

As Christmas is around the corner it will be the first time in 10 years she will not be with us. As sad as it is to think about, it is important to remember the happy times she was around and understand that it is better that she is no longer suffering. That big sweetheart deserved a better way out than cancer, but some things in life we don't have control of. It is tough, especially around the holidays, but we have to accept and move forward with those happy memories. Let this be a friendly reminder to not take what you have for granted, and spend some time with the people you care about over the holidays.

Part 2

By the time I had realized what I'd done it was too late. Only a few seconds had gone by with my back to the plate but that's all she needed. That plate was so clean I could have put it back in the cupboard and in those few seconds she was already laying down in the same spot as before the deed thinking I wouldn't notice. She may have been panting from the warmth inside the house, or the bit of spice in the sauce but at that moment I got to the living room, looked at my spotless plate saying "what.the.fuck" as I turned to look at her she was already looking at me dead in the eyes. I swear she was smiling and laughing at my dumbass. I told her to get outside, and she happily trot to the back door.
I'm sure you're expecting this to be the end of my story, but you are sadly mistaken. It gets better.... After a short time goes by that felt like hours when you're hungry, I've cleaned and prepped a new plate for MYSELF. Using the other half of noodles and sauce saved for lunch tomorrow. I set it on the coffee table in the living room with a new cold beer, CUTLERY, and luckily enough the game was still on. I'm about to dive in as I look to the right and see that cute face starring at me through the French doors while she's banished to the deck. Any other night in that situation I would have gladly ate it in front of her, laughing as I do it, but it was a cold winter night with some heavy rain coming down so I let her back in. Usually I open the door and she steps in and stands there as I dry her off, paws included, then send her to her mat. That was not the case this time.... that bitch shimmied past my knees and B-lined it to my final plate of spaghetti! In one pass of the plate she stuck her tongue out and reeled in nearly half the plate. At that moment I was astonished by two things, 1. The quickness of such a big dog in a short length, and how fast the food got to her mouth 2. The nerve she had to pull it off!. 100%, her thought process was "Dad's not home, no more rules".... Yes, she did get banished back to the deck. Not only did I not get to eat any of that spaghetti, but I had to clean up the trail of mud and water she left behind during her sprint.

Part 1

When I was younger I lived with my father , and during that time he would periodically work out of town leaving myself and this big cutie (above) Lucy to fend for ourselves. Whenever this happened I did the logical thing any young adult would do and ate ALL the food in the house before having to spend my own money. This one particular day I will never forget... I had just come home from a long day at work and there she was at the top of the stairs, happy as can be waging her tail as she waits. I would always give her a good ear massage as I get to the top before sitting down to take off my boots. At that point she would lay down and sandwich me between her and the wall while she slightly rolls over for one specific reason... a belly rub. This dog may have acted clueless and goofy 99% of the time, but she was smart enough to know that at this very moment everyday I would not say no to her for that belly rub.
Fast forward a bit and it's dinner time. She would get the usual, then stare at me in the kitchen as she would anyone with her one true love: human food. I lucked out and found a package of the old mans home made spaghetti sauce hiding in the freezer and luckily there was ONE package of spaghetti noodles sitting in the pantry. Anyone close to me knows that pasta is #1 in my books and if you're lucky enough to try the sauce I'm talking about then you'd know why this memory sticks to my memory so well. Everything was finally ready, it was late and I was starving.
Half the noodles on my plate and a mountain of sauce, leaving the rest for lunch tomorrow. Meanwhile Lucy is the source of a pool of slobber and drool on the floor. The Canucks were playing that night, so I took my plate to the living room, sat on the couch and told her to go lay down. Like I mentioned before, this girl was no dummy. She sat at the end of the couch out of my eye sight, but positioned just right so she could watch me eat and possibly Hoover anything that falls. It's finally time! I'm comfy, food is ready, cold beer, game is and life is good.... till I realize spaghetti is not finger food.
