Ben Barker  Artist in DC/VA/MD. YT: BenBarkerArt Web:BenBarker.com

A 6"x6" of a beautiful alley in Dupont. See this work and many other paintings from local and visiting artists in the Small Works Show. This December, @principlegallery in Alexandria VA.

A 6"x6" painting from DC. If you're curious about how I make comps for these I made a YouTube video called "How to develop your ideas with photos". The link to my channel is in my profile.

Went to the Brandywine museum yesterday. For some reason I forgot this was only two hours from DC. If you like the Wyeths work it's definitely worth the trip.

Another little cityscape, see the YouTube link in my profile to watch a little clip about painting it. Merry Christmas and have a safe and happy New Year!

Night Row 2, oil 6"x12". See this and many other works from local and visiting artists at Small Works 2017. Opening Dec 2nd at @principlegallery !

Still room in my portrait and sketchbook classes, starting Sunday at @alcumd . Open to all, beginners welcome. Link in profile.

New YouTube video, painting this scene. YouTube channel link in my profile.

From last night's Hyattsville figure drawing.

I finally found the trick to these Winsor Newton bottles. Just take a screwdriver and pry off the outer black lid. A normal (albeit not childproof) clear lid is underneath. The plastic teeth on the outer lid become rounded and won't engage the inner lid, making these bottles difficult to open.

A month later and this liquin is fine. The outer lid does nothing but childproof (and adultproof).

I made a new drawing horse. This is the second one I've made. They first one was with screws and bracket hardware, and now belongs to @mattdrawsstuff. This one uses traditional woodworking joints. All hand tools, custom sized for me 😀

Figure drawing from the Hyattsville sessions on Tuesday evenings

A fun experiment, I made this floater frame with dovetail splines using only hand tools (and Whitney's guidance). Wood working is its own art form. I think in the time it took me to make this, and do only a barely adequate job, an expert could have made five. And I could have made two more paintings... I think I will leave it to the pros, but I enjoyed the experience. Just like in animation it's nice to learn the whole pipeline. #woodworking #painting
