This #TrainerTipTuesday is all about moving weight overhead with speed and power! Usually when we train overhead, the focus is on the shoulders but with these explosive lifts the legs & core are just as important. Using your entire body to perform these lifts will allow us to develop functional strength from head to toe.
Whether you're working on a Wall Ball movement with a medicine ball (first video) or performing a Barbell Push Press (second video) focus on a few key checkpoints... - Set up with the weight high up on the chest and keep it close to your body for the first part of the lift - Start the movement with a dip in the hips and knees, think about "Coiling a spring" - Keep your core tight the entire time! Engaging your core will improve the transfer of force and help prevent unnecessary strain on the lower back - Drive up with tons power. As you press, allow momentum generated from the lower body to help carry the weight all the way up overhead
