Here's possibly the only throne in Westeros to rival the Iron Throne for dramatic effect 🙌 Inspired by a rock formation spanning just 8 kilometres of a beach in Basque Spain, Daenerys Targaryen's throne at Dragonstone was made on location out of plaster on a timber frame. Production designers created the throne to be imposing in size without dwarfing Emilia Clarke, adding silver accents to make it pop ✨

The production design of Game of Thrones won a BAFTA this weekend at the TV Craft awards, which celebrate the work behind the scenes of some of last year's biggest shows.

Where Margaret becomes Beryl 😏 Here’s production designer Martin Childs’ sketch for the set that would become Toby Armstrong Jones’ photography studio in the fourth episode of The Crown series 2 📸 Its utilitarian, warehouse-like design places it in stark contrast with the plush, heavily brocaded rooms to which the princess is accustomed…

Series Two of @thecrownnetflix saw Prince Phillip on a globetrotting voyage around the South Pacific on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Deck scenes on the Britannia where shot off South Africa (which doubled for everything from the Caribbean to the Antarctic Ocean) where production designer Martin Childs’ team constructed a giant fake deck hanging out over the sea! 🌊

The look of USS Callister’s Space Fleet was clearly inspired by quintessential TV sci-fi Star Trek 🛸 especially the ship itself which would fit in seamlessly with Starfleet 👉 swipe to compare production designer Joel Collins’ design for the space ship & the USS Callister in its finished form

Two very different BAFTA-nominated production designs! 👏
⬅️ Production designer Joel Collins’ rendering of the USS Callister bridge features a prominent (iconic) captain’s chair from which virtual reality game designer Robert Daly (played by Jesse Plemons) lives out his self-aggrandizing adventures 🔫
➡️ Production designer Pat Campbell’s incredible designs of a war-torn Syrian street, complete with destroyed cars, debris and ragged walls, for Channel 4’s The State.

Production designer Pat Campbell has worked on everything from Wolf Hall to Rillington Place, and now she’s turned her hand to something completely different. For The State, a drama about four British Muslims who join the Islamic State in Syria, Campbell broke down a normal city street, strewing destroyed cars and debris across the road amid the lone lamppost and the ragged walls

Jane Petrie, costume designer for @thecrownnetflix works hard to recreate actual dresses worn by the queen without making exact copies 👗👑 In the series, the Queen’s meeting with the stylish Jackie Kennedy makes her feel self-conscious and frumpy, even though they both wear blue dresses with white gloves. Compared to their real-life dresses, the queen’s has bolder straps and busy clusters of jewels while Jackie’s is strapless, with a more streamlined silhouette 💁‍♀️

@thecrownnetflix can have two sets filming at the same time…depicting totally different time periods. Costume designer Jane Petrie uses timeline boards to keep trends straight. On set, costumes are in a constant cycle of alterations, laundry, ironing, and prep for scenes. Petrie says that the pace required of the costumes team is incredibly quick, with costume turnaround required in as little as a few days ⏰👏😤

According to @taboofx costume designer Joanna Eatwell, costumes for period pieces must ☝️ reflect customs of the time, and ✌️ contribute to the story. Eatwell, who also designed Wolf Hall’s Tudor garb, always sets out to “tell the story through the costumes” and not just to make historical recreations. Here’s her inspiration board of cravats and their incarnation in the series: from parlour portrait to rough-n-tumble rapscallion 💎💣

In the most recent series, the women of @peakyblindersofficial have blossomed into full 1920s glamour 💍 ✨ Many of the dresses are vintage finds that had to be reinforced by the costumes team to make it through a rigorous shooting schedule 💪 The flat caps, tailored jackets, overcoats, and buttoned waistcoats worn by the men are inspired by the original Peaky Blinders, who were known for their dapper appearance 💁🏻‍♂️

Alison McCosh’s costumes are nominated at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards this weekend, which put a spotlight on the behind-the-scenes work of some of last year’s biggest shows.

The wildling *boots with the fur* worn north of the Wall were designed with spikes fashioned from antlers, suggesting that they made use of all their resources to survive in the frigid climate. The white walkers are draped in similar clothing...in considerably worse shape 🧟‍♂️

Michele Clapton’s amazing costumes are nominated at our TV Craft Awards this weekend, which recognise the work behind the scenes of some of last years’ biggest shows.
