When it comes to covering self harm scars, only a few styles of tattooing are really effective. No symmetrical or realistic designs will work, only illustrative pieces with lots of linework such as these custom drawn vintage botanical tattoos by Lucas Holland @coolhandtattoos
The goal isn't to necessarily cover the scars so they can't be seen, it is to take the eyes attention away from them through a busy free flowing design. Scars need to be at a certain stage of healing before we are able to tattoo over them so we always suggest coming to the studio for a consultation and to get some advice from our body piercer / scarification artist who is very knowledgeable in all types of scarring and skin conditions.
During the tattoo process the scars will get aggravated as seen in the photos, but when it settles the pieces work exceptionally well and our client is extremely happy with the end result.
