Our latest catalog arrives this week. Here’s a behind the scenes of the cover story:
Davis Citgo Service in Janesville, WI, found itself in a sticky situation earlier this spring. A tanker truck hauling more than 35,000 pounds of liquid sugar tipped over while navigating a roundabout. Davis Citgo Service answered the call, deploying its two heavy-duty trucks to the scene. "Fortunately this didn't happen in early fall, because bees would have swarmed the area," says Steve Davis, owner. "Regardless, the local fire department did a great job of containing the spill before we got there." Once on scene, the Davis crew first had to recover and remove the truck. The trucking company sent somebody out to drain the remaining syrup from the tanker, which had broken loose from the saddle. "The tanker started out at around 46,000 pounds," Steve says. "By the time it was empty, it was down to around 10,000 pounds. We then ratcheted that back up using our two trucks." The entire effort took around 4 hours, Steve points out. Amazingly, no road closures were necessary. "We were able to keep one lane of the roundabout open," Steve says. "It was a great joint effort with local police and fire personnel." Steve is a second-generation towing professional and past chair of the Wisconsin Towing Association. Davis Citgo Service was founded in 1961 and has a 7-vehicle fleet.
