ARE YOU FROM PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND ARE THINKING OF BECOMING A PILOT? Aviationfly.com has done some research to list potential options below
Did you know there is only one Pilot School offering Pilot Training courses in Papua New Guinea (a second one is currently still being developed)? That’s right, there’s not a lot of training options for aspiring pilots in the country itself, so the second option which most of the students usually take is going abroad and taking their flight training in other countries. We have listed some of the popular options below.
Pilot School in PNG
The only school offering flight training for Papua New Guineans in PNG is Mission Aviation Fellowship MAF Training (link for more information - https://www.aviationfly.com/training-institutes/mission-aviation-fellowship-maf-training-png/). This school has been applying the ‘One Training Centre, Two Campuses’ approach which means they also have a version of the same school in Australia.
Airline-sponsored Training - Air Niugini Sponsorship
The demand for pilots in PNG is high and it has now started developing by leaps and bounds. More and more aspiring pilots from PNG are now interested in flying for airlines such as Air Niugini, PNG Air as well as airlines in other countries, most especially Asia, as they have lowered the requirement for pilot applicants. Air Niugini’s pilots at the moment are mostly expatriate pilots although there is a preference to higher more PNG nationals and support the local community. That is why Air Niugini decided to give scholarships to deserving pilot cadets through a National Cadet Pilot Training Program (more information about this program can be found here - http://airniugini.com.pg/about-us/news/air-niugini-pilot-cadets-sign-contracts/). 1,000s applied but only 4 were selected so it is a challenging route to go to get your Commercial Pilot License.
