We are beautiful colours
So I'm watching the Black Panther trailer and it makes me happy, and then it hits me why I feel that way.
It's the narrative of what the film represents. The trailer highlights first African Superhero, beautiful Africa, beautiful culture, beautiful colourful people that we are, beautiful landscapes, beautiful women. Ryan Coogler (director) and Marvel are telling a contemporary African story but not in the usual condescending way Hollywood usually tells our stories. It had beauty, mystery, intrigue and badassery. I love the women in it already. I also love how Wakanda is
Depicted as a Neo African society with technology and culture walking side by side. We don't have to loose our culture because we are an evolving society.
I think we owe it to ourselves to tell the African narrative, we have to talk about our triumphs, our downfalls, our happiness, our sadness, our way of life etc. The bottom line is we have to do it
As the lyrics to one of my friend songs goes "Only you can tell your story." ~ Bumi Thomas.
So I am proud of the Black Panther film and I will be seeing it once it comes in Feb next year.
