Bath - 1st Place Winner
"This unique, overly spacious Master Bathroom suite looked like a bowling alley before we got our hands on it. Our client complained that it was too large and plain and lacked detail, privacy or elegance. After many iterations, we were able to design a dramatic, yet efficient floor plan that provided an attractive entry vestibule with a lockable jewelry station, a free-standing soaker tub, a private shower for two, a clever spa-like dressing vestibule, separate toilets and vanity areas as well as specialty closets detailed with unique display options for our client’s particular tastes. Not only is this space functional for our client’s lifestyle, but it also abounds in elegant, over-the-top details per our client’s request. From Swarovski crystal door knobs to Neirman Weeks sconces to Mother of Pearl inlaid marble flooring, this bathroom is a dream. The pale green onyx stone used throughout is the icing on the cake that provides a lush, elegant palette to coordinate with the rest of the home."

Kitchen - 1st Place Winner
"Luxurious quartzite countertops featuring python patterns in soft greys, greens and blues are a highlight and focal point in this stunning kitchen space designed for functionality and entertaining. This modern kitchen was tailored for the client’s busy lifestyle with specific zones for cooking, food prep and the bar. With a butler’s pantry, an espresso station, a bar, two islands, dual dishwashers and sinks it functions well if it is
dinner for two or cocktails for fifty. The twin dishwashers are convenient after large social events while the wine cooler and butler’s pantry offers an area to stage the platters for parties or simply make a cocktail for a quiet night at home. A custom
Chaddock eight foot dining table featuring a dramatic circular base was located adjacent to the kitchen to keep the dining area from feeling too formal and encourage interaction with the cook. A variety of LED lighting was all installed with individual dimmers to control the levels of light for creating just the right atmosphere for any occasion. Small glass pendants over the island offer a minimalistic touch but do not compete with the nickel polished Crystorama chandelier that hangs over the dining table. Soft grey cabinets combine beautifully with the blue matte glass subway tile backsplash and island accent. The dark Acacia wood floors add warmth and depth to the light color palette and the simple floating white shelves are a perfect place for the client to display her keepsakes. The extra island make entertaining a breeze and gives the cook an area to create while the still remaining a part of the conversation. To create a transition point
between the kitchen and great room, we designed a modern built in cabinet that features a dramatic contemporary gas fireplace with both open shelving and closed storage." #asidfloridanorth #firstplace

Residence Over 3,000 Square Feet - 1st Place Winner
"This 5 bedroom/3.5 bath, 4200 square foot home was designed for a rock star who loves his craft but also loves a modern aesthetic. While the majority of the walls were painted a clean white, there are notable accents of wallcovering throughout that liven up each space. The living area features an open floor plan with white kitchen punctuated with porcelain Carrara-look tiles, large dining area with wenge table surrounded by leather chairs - all sitting on a custom-made cowhide rug in an art deco pattern, and a living room with all white seating and wood/marble/chrome accents. Throughout the home, you will find touches of wood and other organic elements. A stacking glass wall system opens completely onto the lanai which leads to the pool, pool house, and eventually to the lake behind the estate. Custom features abound in the pool house including a concrete flooring treatment, custom furniture, and commissioned metal angel wings on a metallic painted wall. A bar area is specifically situated so that when one is seated, your view out the window is only of the water behind the home." #asidfloridanorth #firstplace

Residence Under 3,000 Square Feet - 1st Place Winner
"This coastal townhouse in Amelia Island underwent a complete gut and remodel. With only 1,300 sqft of space and 5 split-levels, the layout of this unit presented plenty of challenges while merging our client’s wish list with its modest footprint. This home needed to efficiently accommodate a dramatic, attractive entry stair, a home office, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, dining area, laundry niche and of course, additional storage. They also wished to rent out the townhouse when they traveled so it needed to be easily cleaned. Soft furniture was specified with washable Sunbrella fabrics, indoor/outdoor rugs were installed and the flooring throughout was a durable, scrubbable vinyl plank floor. Every square inch was designed with intention. The result of these specific parameters was a uniquely detailed, beautifully styled vacation escape." #asidfloridanorth #firstplace

Residential Renovation - 1st Place Winner
"A young, fun family in Gainesville, Florida desperately needed a Kitchen Renovation. Fresh, clean, calm and rich were the words they used to describe their ideal space. We used traditional, timeless materials to update the space and provide a warm center for the home. Classic white shaker cabinets, a mix of granite and quartz tops, stainless appliances and polished nickel fixtures fit the bill. We removed an exterior door, added
two windows and reconfigured the space completely. The room now opens onto the fireplace and the Dining area is adjacent." #asidfloridanorth #firstplace

Residential Individual Space - 1st Place Winner (tie) "This multi-functional space was built to be the pool house, but it evolved into so much more. Custom elements include high gloss specialty finished concrete floors, custom furniture, and a built in television cabinet with 3 televisions mounted side by side. The entire area is divided into three zones: the pool table/game area, seating/TV viewing area, and the bar area. The bar is carefully placed at strategically aligned windows that allow a full view of the water when seated, but no sign of the land between the house and the gorgeous lake behind it. Artwork was key in this space and we commissioned metal angel wings that span 10 feet wide by 7 feet tall; each feather is individually made and painted. It is mounted onto a custom painted brass accent wall in the bar area. This client considers the musician, Billy Duffy, his music idol; therefore, we contacted Billy Duffy directly to get the rights to a specific unpublished photograph that now hangs behind the pool table in a wall niche. The bathroom was definitely not overlooked with metallic cork wallcovering and brass and chrome finishes on a marble sink. All doors in this structure slide open to create a completely open room that blends with the adjacent patio." #asidfloridanorth #firstplace #johnmcclaindesign *Stay tuned, we will open and close the work week for each 1st place designers feature! Residential Individual Space - 1st Place Winner (tie) "How do you create a playroom suited to a 2 year old boy and 13 year old girl? It's not impossible and we set out to prove it. Storage and room to play for him, a hang-out area for her and cohesion for Mom was on the table. We approached the space with a neutral palette, to tie in the rest of the home. Fun accents, but calming larger pieces set the tone for the space. We love the end result!" #asidfloridanorth #firstplace *Stay tuned, we will open and close the work week for each 1st place designers feature!
