As many of you know, last October I went on a fishing trip to Wyoming with some friends following the conclusion of my guide season in Crested Butte. This trip has become the subject of much negative media attention due to some very careless actions of mine on this ill fated getaway. Out of haste and enthusiasm to get on the water and fish, I made the mistake of not stopping to buy a Wyoming fishing license. Further, I did not familiarize myself with the local rules and regulations for the particular river we were fishing and as a result I received multiple citations from a local fish and wildlife officer which were respectfully paid immediately. This has become a very high profile story among the fly fishing community. My personal character as a person as well as my code of ethics as a professional fishing guide and angler have rightfully come into question following the events of that day.
I am the first to admit I had a very careless lapse in judgement, and that has led to some very severe consequences. As a professional fishing guide, I know the importance of setting a high standard when it comes to adhering to the law. Those who know me can attest to my ethics on the water and my sense of honor as a person. I have never made any excuses for my behavior last October other than to defend some of the falsehoods that have gone viral on the internet. I hope that those who know me as a person of high class and moral character will not formulate a new negative opinion about me or the brands that I am affiliated with. To that end, I am here now to humbly say I am sorry to all those effected by this uncharacteristic and singular case of poor judgement.
My sincerest apologies go out to the local guides and community in Wyoming, my friends, my clients, and associates in the fly fishing industry who have supported me and given me an opportunity to make a living the way I have enjoyed for many years. I also want to specifically thank all of you who have reached out in support and encouragement; those who know and believe in me, my principles and my fishing ethics and have stood by me during this lousy time.
