Let’s face it, Dowie Doole sounds like the funny sort of name conjured up after a Sunday afternoon on the Shiraz. But in fact, it’s the surnames of the two founders, Drew Dowie and Norm Doole. Since winemaker Chris Thomas stepped aboard, this cracking little winery has gone from strength to strength. They own prime sites in the cool coastal McClaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. And they’ve recently bought a superb old vineyard which is being lovingly brought back to life by viticulturist Dave Gartlemann. It’d be hard to find two more energised chaps in “the Vale” than Chris and Dave. They are throwing everything at it; stepping up the quality from vineyard to winery and reigning in the winemaking so the fruit and vineyard character can speak for themselves. They make a lot of different wines but the Chenin has to be up there with their most unique variety, hailing from the special, sandy Tintookie vineyard in the hills.
Dowie Doole has been part of the Armit Wines portfolio for almost as long as the winery has been established. It goes to show, that even as far away as Australia we are always on the lookout for great wine, made by great people. @dowiedoole .
