Punderdome tonight with @traceyroth before & after. Got third! We got the category "law and crime" in the second round & interrupted the night by making puns criticizing migrant detention policies instead of puns that accept our justice system for what it is. It's a weird stage environment that our audience is mostly white, as well as most performers. I felt glad that, given time on a microphone to talk about "law and crime", that Tracey shared my values about trying to remind people in the room about the violence of the state, so we teamed up to disrupt the conversation. Earlier today I posted our puns here on Instagram with no context, and someone helped to educate/remind me that making puns about dark things like this trauma can wound people who are living it. Audience matters. I'm sorry for the post, I deleted it. The focus should be on the voices and experiences of everyone with and without kids who's been forced to living in captivity or fear.
