New Year goals bring more people to the gym and I support them πŸ’―. It does make for some crowded spaces initially, so I like to make sure I keep a Plan B in my back pocket. πŸ˜‰ My workout tonight called for deadlifts but the free weight area was busy. Thank goodness the sweet guys at the gym were nice enough to unlock the outdoor lifting area for me so I could get my workout in (workout below). It was 32 degrees. I had to beat the ice off the weights when I was ready for my deadlifts. ❄️ Same was true for clean and press. ❄️ I could see the steam coming off my body and the vapor when I breathed. Some folks walked by and said I was crazy and laughed. Others gave me high five and told me to keep going. All I know is if you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way! πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻 WORKOUT:
❄️ 20 minutes walking on treadmill at 3.5 speed with incline at 5
❄️ Ab crunches: 75
❄️ Lying leg curls: 45 lbs 3 sets x 15
❄️ Rear lunges: 3 sets x 20
❄️ Deadlift: 3 sets ❄️ Clean and Press: 3 sets
❄️ Tire flip: Flipped till hands were frozen

I’m no expert at working out. I just know I enjoy the journey of getting fit and encouraging each other along the way. Today, I didn’t even leave the house and needed some motivation. So, I decided to #tbt and play some old school hip hop to get me motivated. No makeup. Nothing fancy. I did have my number one fan cheering me on though 🐢. This workout focused on the backside, so I think the quote was fitting! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‘ŒπŸ» πŸ‘___________________________________________
WARMUP: Run up and down 80 steps six times. Jumping jacks for 2 minutes with no rest. Burpees for 2 minutes with no rest. Arm circles for 30 seconds, each arm. Leg stretches, 1 minute each.
WORKOUT: Donkey kicks, 3 sets of 30 with 30 second rest. Wall sit, 3 sets for 60 seconds each. Step ups on a chair, 3 sets for 60 seconds. Single leg deadlift, 3 sets of 30 per leg with a 1 minute rest. 60 push-ups. 150 bicycle crunches. 150 squats. 3 x 12 bench press (using 2 35 lbs dumbbells) with a 1 minute rest between sets.

I had three things on my wishlist for Santa. πŸŽ… I tried to be good all year, but that nice / naughty list is so subjective. In the following order, I wanted to be home for Christmas. I wanted to spend time with my family, friends, and my two favorite fuzzy faces on the planet. Finally, I was hopeful to lend a helping hand to someone that needed it.
All in all, I must have done something right because I got everything I wanted! The most rewarding experience of my holidays is always volunteering at the local Salvation Army. I’d volunteer everyday, but I’m thankful to have the opportunity to while on vacation during this time. I like to volunteer because there’s no expectations for presents or gifts. These folks are just happy with turkey, vegetables, and some candy. This dining room was full of 40 + folks today, and a handful of kind volunteers.

I don’t know anyone’s story or how they ended up here today. To be honest, I don’t want to know. We all have our crosses to bare. All I know is that I saw the smiles on their faces. I heard them laughing. I had actual conversations with these folks and I even got a few hugs! That was so much more rewarding than anything I could have waiting for me in a box under a tree! Merry Christmas! πŸ’‹β€οΈ

The excitement in this picture is almost a reflection of how happy I am to wake up this morning! I've been under the weather for over a week now. I don't normally mention it because it does no good and I'll get back to πŸ’― eventually. Yesterday, though, it almost got the best of me so I thought I'd hit up the doctor for meds. On the scale, fully clothed, with a winter coat, boots, sweater, jeans, under clothes, and keys in my pocket, I weighed 165. Normally, first thing in the morning, I weigh anywhere between 152-157 on a 5'8 frame. The doctor finally came in and instead of focusing on my symptoms, she threw jabs at my weight. She said I'm not in the BMI range and that's what is causing me to be sick. I'm considered obese per the medical guidelines. She gave me paperwork on losing weight. β€’ Now, all of the pictures in this post have been taken within the last three weeks. No photoshop. No filter. I spend on average, 4 to 5 days in the gym a week. I love watching my body transform. I feel stronger. I love to lift. I may not throw as much weight around as some, but I handle my own. Overall, I feel great, minus the normal run of the mill sickness everyone has right now. I share the pics because if this is overweight, I'll own it all day. I've tried a lot of programs, fads, diets, and the like over the years. None of it worked. Now though, I'm on the right track for me. I know it because of how I feel and the results I see. So, while I appreciate the advice from the doc, I think I'll pass on the suggestions for now. Moral? Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad about yourself. You're badass just the way you are! You don't need an ancient body mass calculation to define your self worth! Keep kicking ass and taking names! I know I will! All I need to know is muscle weighs more than anything! πŸ’ͺ🏻😘πŸ’ͺ🏻😘
