Arcadia Fire Department  Serving the citizens and businesses of Arcadia for over 100 years!

#SafetyTipTuesday With the recent heat wave and multiple wildfire events, it's important to remember to "Ready, Set, Go." Be READY by creating defensible space, get SET with a disaster plan, and GO by leaving early when a wildfire strikes. Every indication shows that it will be a long and busy wildfire season with the overgrowth of light, flashy fuels from the recent heavy rainfalls. #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #readysetgo #wildfire #brushfire #disasterplan #defensiblespace #goearly #heavyrainfall #lightflashyfuels

Yesterday, the Los Angeles City Fire Department laid to rest one of their own. They were supported by many fire departments across the state including ours as a symbol of solidarity and support. As a fire family, we grieve together. Firefighter Kelly Wong's life was celebrated, remembered, and honored yesterday, surrounded by his fire family. "Rest easy brother, we'll take it from here." #lodd #rip #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #condolences #lastalarm #firefamily

On June 14, 1777; the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution that called for an official United States flag. For this reason, we celebrate Flag Day. Today and every day as we perform our duties, we look to honor this American symbol and all that it stands for by protecting our community and those who cross our path. #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #starsandstripes #america #americanflag #freedom #democracy #homeofthefree #homeofthebrave #wearehereforyou

We ask that all of you "swim safely" with these pool safety tips. #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #psa #poolfence #learntoswim #learncpr #cpr #publicserviceannouncement #poolsafety #summer #heatwave

#FunFactFriday How much does your equipment really weigh?
We often hear this question during community education and outreach events. We wanted to give you an accurate answer so we placed one of our members, Engineer Richard Harvey, in different complements of firefighting gear and equipment, and then weighed him. We wanted to demonstrate why maintaining our physical fitness is important. The following descriptions are the results:

1) Top Left - Station Uniform: 189lbs;
2) Top Right - Turnout Gear with Helmet and Axe: 225lbs;
3) Bottom Left - Turnout Gear with Helmet, Axe, and SCBA (breathing apparatus): 262 lbs;

The Arcadia Fire Department teamed with the medical professionals of Methodist Hospital of Southern California to train Arcadia High students on “hands-only” Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) during Physical Education classes, which began today, June 5, at Arcadia High School (California). This LA County EMS System SideWalk-CPR initiative could help save hundreds of lives! #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #arcadiahighschool #arcadiaunified #methodisthospitalofsoutherncalifornia #sidewalkCPR #handsonlycpr #savealife #wearehereforyou

The Los Angeles Fire Department #LAFD is saddened to announce the on duty passing of Firefighter Kelly Wong.
Firefighter Wong, 29, fell from an LAFD aerial ladder while participating in a training exercise Downtown on the morning of Saturday, June 3. Fellow firefighters and paramedics rendered immediate medical attention and transported him in critical condition to a local trauma center.
Despite the heroic efforts of doctors and nurses at the hospital, Firefighter Wong succumbed to his injuries early Monday morning.
He was a two year veteran of the LAFD and was assigned to Fire Station 92 in Rancho Park at the time of his passing. He was scheduled to transfer to Fire Station 9 serving Downtown and Skid Row on June 12 and was working at that station at the time of the accident.
Firefighter Wong graduated from the LAFD Recruit Academy on Terminal Island in August 2015, earning accolades as the top academic performer in his class. "I join the men and women of the LAFD in mourning Firefighter Wong's sudden passing,” said LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas. “It is always a tragedy to lose one of our own, especially an accomplished individual who was still at the beginning of what was certainly going to be a promising career."
A brief procession from LA County USC Hospital to the Coroner’s office is scheduled to being at 10:00 AM.
Firefighter Wong is survived by his wife Danielle, his infant son Colton, his mother Ann, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Barbara and Michael Quinlan and his sisters-in-law Nicole and Stephanie.
The LAFD, in conjunction with state safety agencies, are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. Additional information regarding memorial services for Firefighter Wong will be released in the coming days. #RIPFFKellyWong #lodd

The LAFD firefighter who suffered injuries from a fall on Saturday morning, June 3, remains in critical condition
at a local trauma center on the evening of Sunday, June 4.

Upon his arrival at the hospital immediately following the accident, the firefighter was rushed into emergency surgery to address numerous blunt force trauma injuries suffered in the fall. The member, whose name is not being released at this time, has been with the LAFD for two years.

The Department thanks members of the public, allied fire departments, and especially our own members for their passionate and steadfast support at this difficult time.

We will provide further updates, as necessary.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the Los Angeles City firefighter who was critically injured this morning while climbing the aerial ladder during a training exercise in Downtown Los Angeles. #lafd #thoughtsandprayers

Yesterday E106 responded to a fire alarm at the 600 block of Fairview and discovered a fully involved kitchen fire that had been extinguished by a single fire sprinkler head. E106 balanced the response to a full first alarm assignment to check for fire extension, overhaul, and salvage. No one was home in the complex and no injuries were reported on the incident.
Home fire sprinklers do save lives and reduce property damage. Here is some information from the NFPA Fire Sprinkler Initiative.
