#SafetyTipTuesday Our hearts go out to the city of Manchester during this terrible time. Our deepest condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones at the Ariana Grande concert.

In light of these unfortunate events, we must remain vigilant in hopes of preventing future incidents. Please, "if you SEE something, SAY something." From the Department of Homeland Security: "To report suspicious activity, contact your local law enforcement agency. Describe specifically what you observed, including:

Who or what you saw;
When you saw it;
Where it occurred; and
Why it's suspicious.

If there is an emergency,
call 9–1–1." #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafire #condolences #SEEsomethingSAYsomething #arianators #prayformanchester #togetherwecanhelp #keepourcommunitysafe #stoptheviolence #stopterrorism #Manchester

#lodd Our deepest condolences to the San Antonio Fire Department and to the family and friends of Firefighter Scott Deem. Firefighter Deem was killed last night while fighting a 4-alarm fire at a strip mall. Please keep your thoughts and prayers for the other two firefighters who were also injured at this fire. #condolences #thoughtsandprayers #rip

#FunFactFriday Why does the Arcadia Fire Department have a green colored fire engine?

This green colored fire engine is provided by the state. The California Office of Emergency Services fleet of fire engines are operated under a mutual aid program, in which local governments keep them staffed and then send the engines out to major emergencies such as wildfires at the state's request .

Additionally, OES 343, the fire engine assigned to the Arcadia Fire Department, has special significance. Arcadia Fire Department members have served on this fire engine with pride and dedication since 2008, never to forget the 343 FDNY members who perished on 9/11. We continue to honor these fallen firefighters every time we respond on OES 343.

#motivationmonday "F.E.A.R. Has two meanings- Forget Everything and Run OR Face Everything and Rise..." The Arcadia Fire Department is an "all risk" department, meaning we will respond to the needs of the community, regardless of the nature of the incident. We will begin the process of solving the problem to lead to a positive outcome. Pictured here, a "heat" hole was cut to relieve hot smoke and gases during a well-involved attic fire. #FunFactFriday Why do firefighters cut holes in roofs during firefighting operations?
When a hole is made in the roof, smoke and gases escape because heat and smoke rises. It makes it much easier for the firefighters in the building to see and it creates a more tenable space for possible trapped victims. It also reduces the possibilities of backdraft (explosion) and flashover.

This picture was on the cover of the December 2009 issue of CSFA magazine. "Arcadia Fire responded to a single story residential structure fire with heavy smoke coming from the eves upon arrival. Initial investigation revealed a well involved attic fire. Fire attack and ventilation groups were able to keep the fire contained to the attic." -Quoted from CSFA magazine and Photo by Jamie Nicholson

#MotivationMonday "Everyone deserves compassion." The Arcadia Fire Department strives to serve all who call upon us for assistance with compassion. Today, T105 was requested to assist Animal Control with the rescue of peafowl chicks who fell down into a storm drain. The rescue was a success and the chicks were reunited with their mother. #arcadiafiredept #arcadiafd #afd #compassion #communitypartners #animalrescue #citybird #peacocks #peafowl

#FunFactFriday Is there a difference between a fire engine and a fire truck?

Yes, there is. A fire engine has hoses, a water tank, a pump (to pump water) to extinguish a fire, and a small assortment of ladders and equipment.
A fire truck usually does not have a pump, hose or water tank, and instead features a tall ladder fixed to the truck that extends over 100 feet. Fire trucks also carry an assortment of ground ladders and other fire suppression devices such as the Jaws of Life. Most often, the public is referring to a "Hook and Ladder" fire truck that has a tiller-man who steers at the rear trailer section of the ladder.

#SafetyTipTuesday With the recent hotter weather, it's a good reminder never to leave children, disabled adults, and pets in parked cars. Even in a mild 80 degrees, temperatures inside a vehicle can heat up fast!
