Thanks to the library and Thriftbooks, I've got a nice big stack of cookbooks to dig into this weekend.

Pickled plum (umezuke) update! This is actually my second batch, I had to throw the first batch out because of some... contamination issues of the many-legged kind. 😱 Anyway. They are super crisp, salty, and sour. They remind me of sour, firm olives. Delicious!
They didn't release as much juice (umezu) as I expected, only a spoonful or two, and they hardly softened at all. These were cured for a few weeks, and now they'll live in the fridge until the rain stops, then I'll dry a few to see if I can make umeboshi. And I'll be stalking the market to see if they get any more ume, since they should be in peak season about now. πŸ±πŸ’―

For dinner last night, I made mejadra (rice and lentil pilaf) from Ottolenghi's 'Jerusalem' for #f52cookbookclub. Served with a lamb burger. This is my kind of comfort food! Warm and full of spices: turmeric, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon, allspice. And the crunchy fried onions on top are just πŸ‘Œ #f52grams
