For the record, there was no formal length of time in between these photos. There was no planned before and after.
There was a feeling that hit me about a month ago.
A year ago last month, I made a change. It started with a tough decision: I challenged myself (finally) to find a healthy relationship with fitness. As a runner all my life, I told myself to adjust my mind: stop working out to lose. To shed. To be less.
So I joined Crossfit.
At first, I went one day a week, too sore to consider another. Then, it turned into three. Then, gradually it was five with some active rest days. It wasn’t easy, but with each passing week, I slowly got better at showing up for myself.
At some point a switch went off in my mind: I was working out to gain. To build. To be more.
I haven’t just gained physical strength. I’ve gained mental strength too. My mind and my body are so much healthier, and because of this, I am much happier.
Hustle and grow, at whatever brings you fulfillment. And when you have moments like this where you feel reflective, appreciative and proud, express it.
Then get back to it.
