Something I've been working on a lot since moving back to Washington is finally trying to master that work/life balance thing. I've heard it was a thing, but if I'm being totally honest, the only thing I've mastered the last 2+ years since starting @BoldandPop is the work part. Starting and running a business is hard freaking work and I know Mallory and I will openly admit that we are guilty of giving our biz ALL that we have plus some. While we absolutely LOVE what we do and all of our amazing clients... the reality was the only path we were setting ourselves up for was the path to burnout. And with BIG goals, like taking over the world.. ain't nobody have time for that. 💁🏼
So we made a change. Since I moved home, we've both made an effort to close our laptops at the end of the workday and live a little! And I have to tell you, it's been a game changer for my mood, productivity, and outlook. I've started hiking on the regular. I've spent more time with family and some of my favs. I've been cooking more. Even more important, I've given myself permission to just relax a little and unplug in the evenings. Guess what too? Cutting back on work hours hasn't killed the amount of work we're able to get done either. Instead of working more, we've learned to work smarter by streamlining our systems to maximize our time. Are there occasionally still some late nights? Of course, but we've dramatically cut back on those 12-15 hour days that were often our norm.
We are ALL guilty of using the excuse, "I don't have the time to do this"... or "I'm just too busy for that". I know personally, I've used both a million times but newsflash YOU DO! We all have the same amount of hours in the day and the only thing you don't have time for are the things you do not prioritize. It's not a time issue, it's a priority issue. You certainly can't do everything, every day, but if you shift your outlook you WILL find time for the things you prioritize. Everything requires a little give and take, but I for one know that misson #LivingMyBestLife is a mission worth going after.
