You can’t make any old food foe Hallowe’en . It has to be spooky and gruesome and I love creating spine chilling morsels so forgive me if I shouldn’t be posting about this in September but the creative juices are already flowing ... I used the delicious beef burger recipe in the Complete Baby & Toddler Planner for the Monster Burgers .

Suitable from 7 months
Suitable for freezing
This delicious sauce is fairly thick and enriched with vegetables . I mixed it with our mini organic pasta shells available from Ocado ... 1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
225g sweet potato, peeled and chopped
2 medium carrots, peeled and slice
1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
200 ml weak vegetable stock or water
55g Cheddar cheese, grated.
25g mini AK pasta shells per serving.

1 Heat the oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion for about 4 minutes until softened . Add the garlic and sauté for one more minute .
2 Stir in the sweet Potato and carrots , then pour in the tomatoes and boiling stock or water . Bring to the boil , stirring , then cover the pan and simmer for about 30 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
3 Allow to cool slightly , then blend the sauce to a purée and stir in the cheese until melted .
4 Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet . Drain the pasta and mix with the sauce .

My two girls Lara and Scarlett .... Daughters become your best friends in life .... I chose to write books so that I could be at home with my three children and it wasn’t until 15 years after the Complete Baby & Toddler was published and the children were all at school that I developed my own food ranges in supermarkets ..
Being a mumprenur hasn’t always been easy but now Lara works with me and so I am very lucky to be able to spend time with her in the office every day ... Scarlett has created her own social media company to help brands market their products and she has become a very successful entrepreneur .. If it wasn’t for Scarlett I probably wouldn’t have been an avid instagrammer . We learn so much from our children ..

Eggs are a real food hero, packed full of nutrients . This is so easy to whip up for a quick meal . Recipe from my 15 Minute Meal Chapter in my new book Real Food Kids Will Love .. Enjoy x

50g broccoli florets
Knob of butter
3 spring onions, thinly sliced
2 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp milk
5 cheery tomatoes, quartered
50g gruyere cheese , grated
1 Cook the broccoli in a steamer for 4 to 5 minutes until tender.
2 Melt the butter in a small frying pan over a medium heat , add the spring onions and fry for 30 seconds .
3 Beat the eggs with the milk, season and then pour the eggs into the pan , moving the egg mixture around until the egg starts to set.
4 Scatter the broccoli, tomatoes and grated cheese over the omelette and cook flat (fold the sides towards the centre over the filling if you prefer) for a further 3 to 4 minutes until the omelette is set but has a slight wobble .

Whilst it’s fine to bring your child up vegetarian , an adult vegetarian diet can be bulky and high in fibre which is unsuitable for babies
High fibre diets hinder iron absorption and are low in calories as well as essential fats that may affect your baby’s growth and development .
If your baby is being brought up on a vegetarian diet , it’s important to include nutrient dense foods such a cheese , eggs , nut butters and full fat dairy products as these will provide the extra nutrients required for healthy growth and development. Also remember that to absorb the iron from nom meat sources like lentils or leafy green veg you need to eat a vitamin C rich food at the same meal like strawberries

One way to tempt fussy eaters is to make your own healthier version of fast food burgers . .
This recipe is from my 15 Minute Meal Chapter in my new book ‘Real Food Kids Will Love ‘...and it’s great for the whole family .... What gives them the ‘child appeal ‘ is the tomato chutney ! You can also make these with beef .... See link to Amazon on my Bio for half price offer ....
250g minced Chicken
1 red onion, finely chopped
50g fresh white breadcrumbs
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tsp soy sauce
50g grated carrot
Sunflower oil for greasing

Suitable from one year
Suitable for freezing
1 Preheat the grill to high.
2 Put all the ingredients (except the oil) in a food processor and blitz for a few seconds. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and season lightly.
4 Shape the mixture into 10 burgers and flatten them slightly.
5 Line a baking tray with foil and grease the foil with oil. Place the burgers on the tray and cook under the hot grill for 6 to 7 minutes each side until lightly golden and cooked through.
