While she built cities and he knocked them down, I sat there thinking about the ways I could make next week better than this one. I've been in such a funk. (This happens to me every summer when the dreaded heat sets in. It's the worst.) But we finally left the house this morning and had cookies and fresh lemonade and good things are on the horizon and I think we're gonna be okay after all.

Somehow he's the fun, playful, nice parent AND the one teaching our kids all the right life lessons. Happy Father's Day to you @clinthardison and to our amazing, brilliant dads! We love you.

Eleven summers here for me, and twice as many for Clint. As far as family traditions go, this is a pretty good one.

Ira's face says it all.

Sandy, salty, post-beach hugs. These two have been sharing a bed during our trip, and when I checked on them last night they were cuddled up as close as can be. ♥

All sorts of sunshine here ☼

I spy Margo wandering the beach in her boots, with wind-blown hair and a pocket full of seashells.

Made our way back to California for our annual extended family vacation. When Ira first saw the ocean from the freeway, he would not stop yelling "beach! beach!" until we pulled over for a closer look. We're happy to be here, clouds and all.

The best kind of party prep.

Some favorite things right now: linen sheets, a clean house, greek yogurt popsicles, meditation, podcasts while running (listening to @chrislovesjulia today), pretty handmade ceramics, and last but not least- pompom blankets. My friend's latest collection @interwoven is amazing!

We've been watching these sunflowers in our neighborhood since the day they were planted not too long ago, and I can't believe how tall and fast they've grown.
(If I think too much about the life metaphor there, my heart hurts.)

Margo will have a second surgery on her finger today. She has hardly skipped a beat during this whole process -- learning to write/draw/do everything with her left hand, never complaining, attempting one-handed cartwheels, and smiling through it all. Kids are so resilient and wonderful, aren't they? I've learned a thing or two from this brave little soul.
