The first thing I did after getting engaged was to hunt for a dress 😍😍😍. Tried on a good 20 designer label dresses and while I love them ALL, none of them really fit my body shape, and I wasn’t super confident with the alterations, just because I have a weird body ratio (torso really short!). I’ve dreamt of buying my own Galia, Elie, Berta, Marchesa and Monique... but when I met @noelchuatelier in HK, she put me to ease right away. She understood my concerns and came up with a live mock up of my dress within a week or two and the rest is history! I did end up buying a 2nd dress from Reem Acra via @the.proposal.bridal (photos to come!), but so glad we made this dress together, Noel!

We’ve always been big fans of latex mattresses for comfort and proper alignment of the back when we are asleep. It is about time we replaced our previous mattress, so we looked to European Bedding, for a 100% organic latex. I am super impressed by the support it gives for our spine, and Mr D has been waking up the last week without any lower back pain! If he’s happy, I’m happy!

When i take the time for a bit of self-care first, I find that I’m in a position to help others more effectively. It gives me more energy to be more alive and present in social settings.
Self-care can come in form of EMOTIONAL wellbeing - I think that the time I enjoy wasting, doing nothing is absolutely not wasted time! Negative emotions can eat into our soul. If your mind & body have been taking an emotional beating, you will need a bit of self care to get over it. I would a long walk by myself, spend 1-1 time with my partner just enjoying each others’ company or just laze in bed watching the world go by for an entire afternoon... sometimes even do a bit of gardening or slow cooking - I find it very therapeutic. “Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. Self-care that comes in the form of taking care of your BODY. Developing a workout routine or a pampering facial, manicure, massage or body scrub... I love them all! I’m such a beauty junkie and spend most Sundays in my bathroom for over an hour going through my beauty essentials. We had our pre-wedding honeymoon in Santorini and it was such a nice way to kickstart wedding season! We stayed at @ikieshotel which is close to Oia but not in the deep of the chaos. Each night we would watch the sunset from the comfort of our terrace and then walk out into the beautiful town of Oia for the MOST SPECTACULAR food ever! 📷: My Instagram Husband

Waking up refreshed is important because my days are intense and long, and a good sleep is what sets me up for a great day at work. Knowing that my mattress is 100% organic latex, and free from harmful chemicals gives me the ease of mind and that I’m buying responsibly with no risk to the environment or myself. Did a minor bed revamp in our home! Those who know me, know that talk of bedsheets and bedding will get me super excited. I think no one is 100% introverted or extroverted. But when your introverted self expresses itself in a bigger way on a particular day, here’s what helps me get out there and give it all:

I like to prep, tune into myself first, before putting myself out there. I like to arrive early before I gotta teach a class so that I can focus my mind, gather my thoughts and energy. I used to sit quietly in my car for a few minutes first before going into a social event, and really enjoying the moment of stillness and getting a chance to recalibrate.
The thing though, is that I must WANT to be there, even if it’s not something I’m super keen on showing up for, the fact that I’m here, means that I need to be PRESENT. It’s not easy, and there are times I’m hanging around an event and just waiting for the time that someone initiates a departure so that I can follow suit. I’m not proud of that. But I’m proud of the fact that now, I’m more selective of what I want to show up for, and once I’ve made the choice, to make the best of it and ENJOY myself!

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the conflicting personalities I have within me. I’m a Type-A, yet EXTREMELY introverted. I love spending days in solitude, yet I run a people-oriented business in the service industry. I can often be misunderstood but don’t feel the need to speak up or explain myself. Social media sometimes overwhelms me.

I struggle with not losing myself in this whirlwind madness. How do I balance my energy and being present with my clients 100% when I’m in the studio? How do I have the mental strength to be in networking and social events and make meaningful connections? I don’t have all the answers, but I thought, surely there are others who feel this way, and I’d like to share my journey from the last 3 years to create that balance between myself and the outside world.

In the next few posts, I’ll be sharing a few tips, ideas and reflections on how I get out there. How I made the decision to OWN my story, do my ‘thing’ and make changes in my life so that it fits in with my lifestyle, and not the other way round. #livingourbestlives
