The sun sets over the Cole Bro's Circus Big Top during a show at the Prince William Country Fairgrounds in Manassas, Virginia •

It was founded in 1884 as "W.W. Cole’s New Colossal Shows", by William Washington Cole. In the 1930s, the circus was home to two noted animal trainers, Clyde Beatty and Allen King, both of whom traveled in their own railroad cars. Another well-known performer with the circus was Bobo the Clown •

As of 2014, Cole Bros. Circus was one of the few traditional circuses in the United States remaining under the Big Top tent •

As of 2016 the show was essentially defunct, in large part due to being targeted by animal rights protests •

It performed its last show in 2015 •

Aliquippa High School football players leave the locker room before the start of a game •

The school has one of the smallest enrollments in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL). The class of 2013 had only 58 kids, including 28 boys •

Technically, they could play against Class A completion but they elect to play at the AAA level •

The team has averaged 10 wins a year for over 30 years. Last year Aliquippa played in its 11th consecutive WPIAL championship game, and they have won a record 17 titles. Also in 2018, they came home with Aliquippa's seventh state title appearance of all time and their third state title in school history •

The WPIAL, a 113-year-old league covers 10 counties, has a list of alumni with names like Montana, Namath, Marino and Gronkowski •

The school's decaying stadium, known as "The Pit," has been the training ground of NFL greats like Mike Ditka, Sean Gilbert, and Ty Law, all of whom were Aliquippa graduates. In 2017 the football team had at least four Division I prospects •

This year former Aliquippa start and New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law was selected for the 2019 class if inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame •

Aliquippa is the former location of a one of the largest steel mills in the world, the Jones and Laughlin Aliquippa Works with occupied a seven mile stretch along the Ohio River. The plant was shuttered in the late 1980's when the steel industry in the United States collapsed •

The city now has fewer residents than the steel mill had employees (14,000) in its heyday •

Lloyd Crumley's niece at his ranch in Valdosta, GA. Lloyd happened upon the Bennett-Browning murders and was instrumental in Hercules Brown's quick arrest •

When a brutal murder rocks a small town in south Georgia, residents and police are shocked. Could the new guy in town be the one who who did it? Yes, the cops say, he is. Case solved. But then another murder happens. And another. In the end: four bodies, two convictions, and one man in jail for a crime he likely did not commit •

Devonia Inman, the man originally convicted and sent to prison for the murder of Donna Brown in a Taco Bell parking lot, still claims innocence, and his case has since been taken up by Georgia lawyer, Jessica Cino. Hercules Brown, the man who many believe was the Donna Brown's actual murderer, is in prison for three murders committed after Devonia was sent to prison • "Murderville, GA" is a story about the American criminal justice system, and what happens when justice is denied through wrongful convictions. Since the photos attempt to explain a crime that happened nearly twenty years prior and with both suspects presently in prison, it is not a traditional photo essay. The photos in "Murderville, GA" instead try to capture the mood of Adel and how these murders still prey on the memory of the family and friends of both the suspects and victims of the crimes •
