Three kinds of paella, a variety of California and Spanish wines, and lively flamenco dancing were for us highlights of tonight's food and wine festival, East L.A. Meets Napa and La Rioja.
Tomorrow (Saturday) evening the sister food and wine festival, called AltaMed OC Meets Napa & Mexico, will take place at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
For more information, see http://www.altamedfoodwineoc.org/
The proceeds from the festivals benefit AltaMed's health services to underserved families in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

His paella has chicken, Spanish chorizo sausage, clams, mussels and peas and is topped with langostinos (or sometimes shrimp). The rice is also flavored with onions, sweet red peppers and garlic sauteed in olive oil, and is seasoned with saffron. The cooking liquid is chicken stock.
