When you like using a standing wheel but then you start throwing tall forms... #shortgirlproblems #pottery #potterywheel #madeinpgh

Some more finished milk jugs for a commission. It's been a fun learning experience. I like commissions because they sometimes get me to try things I might not of tried on my own, like these cool rims! #pottery #madeinpgh #handmade #ceramicjugs #milk #milkjugs #jugs #nicejugs #bigjugs #sexyjugs #buttheyreactuallyjugs

Beginning to make taller vases. Partially because I tend to throw whatever I'm in the mood for that week, and recently I've been into throwing cylinders. Also, I've been taking a wood-firing seminar so I can experiment with new firing techniques. A piece this tall will be laid on its side on three pieces of wadding and you will be able to see "flashing" around the vessel, or the direction of the flame and ash in the kiln. I wanted to make something taller so I can appreciate this effect on a piece. So I made two of these. I threw them slowly, partially because this clay is so soft that I didn't want to rush it, but also because this seminar is my chance to take it easy. I'm excited to see how it'll turn out! The only challenge I had was throwing this on a standing wheel, which I always use because it feels better on my back to stand. I had to stand on a stepping stool to pull this up, which was fun. I also noticed that throwing taller, skinny structures have more potential to wobble unexpectedly, although it was easy to recover. All in all, I'm happy with these pieces and can't wait to make more! #pottery #ceramics #woodfiring #throwing #madeinpgh
