Kowloon City's Thai town is where we would go to find more exotic cooking like fresh cockles, a dish that's hard to come by on HK island, making this find bloody satisfying. Plump morsels, each bite is bursting with a flavourful melange of iron and the garlicky nam jin dressing. Worth the trip out to the "dark side", every time!

It never fails to surprise me how friendly service is despite the endless demand for their signature Roast Goose. A good respite from the crazy yelling that is expected at local joints. Good prices and delicious food paired with humble service makes a winning recipe!

Air travels within China isn't always a pleasure. Queues are long at each check point and flights can delay without reasons. But somewhere within this misery is an oasis. My heart skips a beat each time its cubic tiles greet me before morning flights with a waft of baked goods, coffee and hot food. Now if only @wagas_cn could open up in every Shanghai airport terminal, then air travels would be pretty swell (and delicious!)

An oldie but a goodie, the Pavlova at this legendary Bund-side eatery has kept legion of fans coming back in droves for more than a decade. Light and fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and piled high with whipped cream, tropical fruits and a drizzling of passion fruit sauce. Now that's how you jazz up a cold February day.

Though the Spring Festival celebration stretches for a 15-day period, many have already resumed their duties in the city. But warm memories of their time at hometown are still fresh, and many return with care packages, mostly food, packed by their parents. Over last weekend, an overweight luggage was stopped at Nanjing Airport. Upon discovering the check-in luggage was filled with homemade pancakes and pickles - a parting gift from a mother to her son who works in another city - the airline allowed the passenger to board the plane with the 15 kilos of extra weight without any charges, bringing a big smile to his face. Heartwarming stories as such have flooded the Chinese social media since. For my friends who aren't as lucky, they can only be contented with food vendors using "hometown recipes" like this famous noodles house in Shanghai
