I once read that if you want to see what a person is afraid of losing then you should pay attention to what they take photos of. In my personal life, that’s fairly accurate - it’s mostly photos of my dog and everyone knows how much I love that guy. But in my professional career, I find a quote from Annie Leibovitz very apt: “A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to to fall in love with these people” ....or places, or things. The human body itself is an art form. The way the raw light falls on the people, places, things you see every day changes steadily and turns it into something ever changing. The way I see photography is that it represents a moment of ‘present.’ As soon as you photograph a subject they become part of the past. Step away from perfection and just reveal. And like Ansel Adams taught us, learn where to stand.
