People used to ask me what the navy was like, to which i gave a number of answers depending on what mood i was in based on the day/week or trip i had just finished. However a good friend once described military jobs as the same as any other, except with higher highs & lower lows & that is by far the most truthful way to describe it to anyone wishing to know.
After just over ten years it finally comes to an end for me today. Its easy for me to say it's been great, having just finished by far the best posting of my career. But at times it was very testing of my patience, i missed birthdays, weddings & countless hours of precious time with those who mattered most. Throughout all that i stayed, i stayed because i loved going to sea, i loved being apart of something so much bigger than myself & i've always been extremely proud to have served my country as long as i did 🇦🇺
Im not leaving because i hate it or i had a sudden change of heart, i'm leaving because i feel the time is right to move on & try something new & exciting.
I have so many people to thank but unfortunately I can't thank everyone personally, there is just far too many names to mention.
So thanks to my family & friends for your support & patience these last 10 years & to everyone i served with thank you, thanks for the memories, thanks for the mostly extended conversations & finally thanks for putting up with me. Your actions for better or for worse helped mould the sailor i became.
So to all my friends still serving I can't help but wish you all the best of luck for the rest of your careers, calm seas & nothing but a high speed transit🛥⚓
