Navajo Nation tribal member Cole Skeet is a 2nd-year student who started his #UNM experience by participating in the American Indian Summer Bridge Program. Cole’s focused most of his time in the past 2 years on excelling academically as a Criminology major, with a minor in History – Centennial Library & the Zimmerman Library Basement are his frequent homework & study spots! His ultimate career goals include becoming a detective or history professor. Although he’s a serious student, Cole is all about fun & games as well – he’s an avid Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, a super-savvy video game tournament competitor (Streef Fighter V is his thing!) and Star Wars fanatic. Cole admits that he wouldn’t be where is now in life without the support of his mother and encourages his fellow #Lobos to “expand your horizons and try something new!” #AISSLobo #NativesInEducation #AISBAlum

Veronique ‘Vero’ Arguello (Acoma/Santo Domingo Pueblos) is a first year student that’s immersed herself in the #UNM community fearlessly! Being a member of the #ASUNM Joint Council, Sidekicks Mentorship Program, and the #AISS Student Success Leader Team are just a few things that take up her time in addition to her academic work as a Community & Regional Planning major. She hopes to establish a career focused on developing & advancing sustainable systems & structure in Indigenous communities that can continue to preserve traditional & tribal lands. Family is important to Vero and she gives props to her grandparents (her s/heroes!) who raised her & instilled a strong set of values in her that she models for her younger siblings. Vero’s words of advice for @aissunm followers: “Don’t be afraid to start; get out and do it.” We’ll definitely be on the lookout for all that Vero’s sure to accomplish in her #LoboLife!! #Haaku #Kewa #GoLobos #NativesInHigherEd
