Hey #Lobos! We’re kicking off our July #AISSLobo highlight with a former #AISB16 participant, Cheyenne Bates, who’s now a Junior majoring in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Language Arts and minoring in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She’s spending the summer interning with her tribe (Navajo Nation) & looking forward to returning to #LoboLand to continue her works as an AVID Tutor with Albuquerque Public Schools and volunteering with the Office of Youth Development & Zia Family Focus Center. Cheyenne’s a member of Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc., and enjoys giving back with the #UNM community during Spring Storm every year. She recommends that students enroll in PENP classes to stay active during the academic year & shares the following advice with her fellow Lobos: “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” Learn more about Cheyenne when she takes over @AISSUNM Snapchat later this week! #AISBFam #NativesInHigherEd #NativesInEducation #QueenBees

#AISSLobo Iyona Freeland – proud member of the #NavajoNation – is a Criminology & Psychology double-major who’s also minoring in Biology. Her primary goal is to attend Law School once she completes her undergrad degree and ultimately she hopes to work for her tribe. In the meantime, she’s completely focused on her academic experience and is a #UNM Golden Key Honors student - #GoogleIt. Although she has a hectic study schedule, she makes sure to work in enough time to play ball, run, or weight lift. Iyona counts on her family for motivation and calls her uncle her hero. Once she’s done with her Summer ’18 courses; she’ll take a short vacation in Cali before gearing up to hit the books again this Fall. Happy Summer, Iyona! #AISB16 #AISBAlum #NativesInHigherEd
