That tiny little dark smudge is me.
Jumping off a cliff.
In Greece.
Because I’m determined to do the things that scare the hell out of me.
Because I have this idea that on the other side of those scary things are the experiences and opportunities that will lead to my most fulfilling life.
So far I’ve been right.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What scares the hell out of you?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks to my new friend @brisahara for capturing this for me (and for also teaching me so much about kangaroos).

I have been planning a week long camping trip for the end of the month and I cannot wait. After camping for 40+ days on #thewildandwonderfulamericanroadtrip this Summer, it probably goes without saying that I’ve been feeling the itch to get back out under the stars. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If anyone in the mountains/wilderness of Virginia needs photos for anything while I’m up there—let me know! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also would love some recommendations for your favorite camping spots and hikes. Making it a point to spend some time exploring some of the places I’ve been meaning to see for years in my home state.
Open to meeting up with people and making new friends too!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Side note: I will most definitely be packing all of the sheepskins and wool though because good grief is it cold already...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was one of my all time favorite campsites on an island in Maine in 2016 with @tumblehome.us. We got caught in the rain during the sail over so there’s all of our stuff hanging out to dry. And #apuppynamedhuck taking a nap. When I think about some of the best adventures I’ve had in my lifetime, this day was one of them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .

I went without a phone for 16 days.
One week of which was in a foreign country no less. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This heroic sounding social experiment wasn’t initially by choice. But what started as a tight chested anxiety inducing situation turned into a deep and long refreshing breath of fresh air. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have the most impossibly long list of people that I’ve met over the course of these last two weeks that I know I wouldn’t have met as intimately or meaningfully or even at all had I had the use of my phone. Strangers on planes, at bars, in lines, on the street, in the Apple store... As a rule I try to be a person who has limited screen time in public and generally am open to meeting and interacting with others, but even the small moments of checking your phone take you away from where you are and interacting with your fellow humans and I was so aware of how much *more* opportunity I had to do this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I admit I am feeling a tad hesitant to come back to this space after such a refreshing break. Not having a phone in my hand or on my person for two weeks felt pretty wonderful actually, and having one again I feel the dopamine trip and addiction already trying to set in again, not to mention the pressure to get back to everyone RIGHT NOW.
Of course logistically there were times it made life a little more challenging, but really?
I was just fine without it.
Definitely a needed shift in perspective and a reminder about what’s really important. (Hint: it’s not my phone)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course, as with everything, it is a balance. Because of course I missed sharing with and talking to you all on here and after all my recent travels you can bet I have some stories for you...
Get ready. .

—✺—golden hour goddess—✺—
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
as toxic a place as the internet can be, it has brought me so many friends from all walks of life and from every corner of the world and that kind of good will always outweigh the bad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
true kindred spirits are hard to come across sometimes, but this wildflower is one of the dearest and deepest despite our living on opposite sides of the world.
miss you already @siobhanwatts. xo

“all of those days that came and went- I didn’t realize those were life.” —Erling Kagge from Silence In The Age of Noise

and this is the stuff of what become some of the most treasured moments in my life.
the just simple doing life with others.
in their routine, their mess, their every-day, their ordinary.
it’s in those bits of living that i find the most beauty.
the things that make up the most meaningful inspiration and needed motivation.
it’s where all of the good and real and raw art truly can be found.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
granted todays was in a beautiful England town half a world away, but i have had these experiences enough times to realize that finding that kind of magic is rarely about the place so much as the people in it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i won’t be able to adequately express the admiration and love i have for @siobhanwatts in a silly instagram post, but i want to share at least this little bit of thought. because it’s these types of happenstances that make up the goodness in the world and we need to be more open to experiencing them. because there is so much joy that can be found when we lay aside our insecurities and fears and open ourselves to the world and the many beautiful people in it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
because she is a virtual friend of nearly eight years (through our blogs, before instagram was even a thing) turned real-life friend only at the beginning of this year. and though this is only the second meeting and spending time together in person, i knew after the first moment of us seeing and hugging one another that this would be one of those friendships that was just an understood and given thing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
the post yoga-dancing with her two year old in the kitchen and losing-track-of-time four hour conversation over the dinner table, among many other simple and sweet things of today, result in my feeling that if this trip ended right here and i went home... i would be content.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
my heart is so full, and yet i know it can get fuller because that is just the nature of the goodness of life.
there is always more joy to be found if you just choose to seek it.

Iceland is one of the special places.
granted i do feel like that about a good many places that i’ve visited over the years, but Iceland will always be up there in it’s meaningfulness to me.
there is truly no other place like it on this planet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i’ve only been once and it was in 2015 (check out #theknittingqueentakesiceland), but the memories are deep and lasting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
it was a kind of torture being in the airport for a few hours during my layover today and not being able to leave and experience the country again, but it was still nice to at least be able to breathe in the crisp fresh air from the runway and talk to some of the Icelanders who work in the airport. (and pick out the handful of Icelandic words i still know from people’s conversations)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
such a beautiful people and magical country. i’ll revisit it properly again one day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

one v tired and v happy girl over here. New York as always my love for you is exponentially huge and large and yes yes insert all similar adjectives here, and after walking over 20 miles in 3 day’s carrying all the things and doing all of the things i am so exhausted. but holy wow the people of New York.... i love you all so much. so many magical and funny and wonderful interactions with strangers and new friends and i cannot even begin to mention all of our beautiful conversations. and the photos! so many great photos were shot. sharing more soon. more eloquent put together thoughts from a more rested brain and more creative photos than this selfie. but just needed to put out some public social media gratitude out into the world because life is hard a lot. but it’s mostly good. mostly beautiful. and i’m happy i’m living mine.
and London!! here i come.
as soon as i finish packing and catch my midnight flight...
xoxo

found a green corner in Brooklyn to edit today’s photo session!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
it’s rare that i have time right after a shoot to start working on the photos but i am so excited about how these turned out that i made it a priority for today. (keep an eye out on @agirlnamedleneyphotography for previews!)
besides, it’s going to be a whirlwind of a week what with the remaining week’s shoots here in New York and heading to England on Thursday AND Greece next week! gotta hustle to get everything done. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PSA: if you’re near any of those locations and have interest in booking a session for some photos, let me know.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
also, yes. it’s official. i finally invested in a mirrorless camera for my traveling shoots that i want to be lighter and more mobile for and that is the #Fujifilmxt3 you see. still learning all it can do, switching over from Canon has been a transition but i am kind of head over heels...
