Love that new carpet smell?? The problem: New carpeting fills your indoor airspace with very harmful chemicals known as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) within the first 72 hours after installation.
Now here's the rub! After 72 hours, low levels of this particular toxic brew will continue to emit into your home's airspace for years.๐Ÿ˜ฎ That "new" carpet smell is nothing but a respiratory and central nervous system irritant called styrene and phenyl-cyclo-hexane which make up that latex backing of the carpet. The Speech-language Pathology profession lies in the realm of "reactive" healthcare and over the years I've found that many of my patients often wished they had the information about preventive health measures instead of compensatory strategies that I recommend post stroke. While I am very thankful for the opportunity to treat my patients and I am also passionate about providing the public with education about living a lifestyle that cultivates health and wellness. I personally experience these health benefits daily and if I ever deviate from them I feel the difference. The benefits of filtered water go beyond just bypassing yucky aluminum and calcium deposit filled hard water.
Of course I didn't like the way my hair and skin felt when I showered. I also didn't like that metal taste in my mouth after drinking tap water and those icky hard water stains in my tub and toilet! I am genetically predisposed to diabetes and while knew that eating cookies, cakes, and doughnuts were unhealthy, I didn't know that eating processed foods such as tomato sauce and salad dressing contained added sugars.
