Liska Myers  An artist & a blogger from Canada. Paper crafts, shadow puppets, handmade toys and games. I love my family, books and dark chocolate.

The interesting thing about watercolours is sometimes you can patiently work with them for hours to create a picture and it will seem strained in the end, and yet when you take random colours and splash them freely on paper, the results are truly fascinating. My son and I made some watercolour valentines.

When the sun is shining through the window, I like to see the shadows our suncatchers leave on the walls and curtains.

My new preferred method of decorating windows for holidays. :) Some plastic containers + black glue + @sharpie = stained glass decorations made by my five-year-old! And we're ready for Valentine's Day. (The detailed tutorial is on the blog.)

Thank you all for a fun year of staying connected on IG. #2017bestnine

Merry Christmas from all of us!

Do you remember cutting paper snowflakes as a child? This is a spin on an old craft—instead of leaving it as a snowflake, we put a fairy inside and made a snowflake fairy! The snowflake skirt adds some dimension to the silhouette, and if you don’t look too closely, it seems as if little winter fairies are indeed fluttering around your tree. The free printable templates for fairies are on the blog.

My favourite part of Christmas isn’t the actual day, but the weeks leading to it. Decorating the house, setting up the tree, baking Christmas cookies and choosing presents for everyone in the family. Christmas day is wonderful by itself, but the whole month of December is filled with a festive atmosphere because of the little family traditions we have. All around us, other people are preparing and celebrating in their own ways, and somehow thinking about it warms me inside. And this, ultimately, is what I wanted to express with this craft. In all the houses, people are getting ready for Christmas. Everyone is doing it in their own way, but all of them are happy. The tutorial and the templates for the project are available on the blog!

As you probably know, we love puppets, so it was great to see all the entries for the @creativechildhood puppet photo challenge these past two weeks! It is really fascinating to see how many forms puppets can take... @lottaleonie made adorable Wizard of Oz finger puppets. I'd like to try her technique, and I think my son would find it really doable as well.
@handywithscissors had turned her hand into a fox puppet... This was really unique and amazing!
@littlebuttondiaries made cute Christmas glove puppets. This would be a good project to try this month!
@tabletakes had a very handsome articulated puppet. Another technique that cannot be missed!
Thank you to everyone who participated as well as my co-hosts @creatingcreatives and @thecrafttrain!

Santa Claus in a sleigh, a winter forest and children playing in the snow - these are our new Christmas rock designs. :-) More pictures and design templates are on the blog.

@creativechildhood photo challenge this week is PUPPETS. If you'd like to participate, post a picture that fit the theme with a tag #creativechildhood and follow my co-hosts @thecrafttrain and @creatingcreatives. We share lots of pictures throughout the week!

We love playing with shadow puppets. They're simple to make, but with a little flashlight, one can run pretty spectacular performances right in the playroom. Lately, my son started making decorating for our puppet shows, and the whole setup became even more artistic.

Most sets I create are based on particular stories, fairy-tales or legends, but this one is different. It includes twelve generic fairy-tale characters (and objects). I call it Create-a-Fairy-Tale set because it inspires children to create their own stories. My son is particularly fond of it lately because he suddenly got into the stage of liking knights-saving-princesses stories. But then, it's equally easy to make the princess-saving-the-knight story with this one! (You can find the set for sale as well as the printable template on the blog!)

Happy Halloween from the knight and the dragon!

I thought it would be funny to put Jack-o’-Lantern in a jack-in-the-box toy! The idea was a success with my son: we made several. The second picture is the one he drew. If you want to make one, a free printable template is available on the blog! #adventureinabox #halloweencraft #halloweenideas #jackolantern #papercraft #papercrafts #printyourown #printable #kbnmoms #stem #stemeducation #kidscrafts101 #kidscrafts #diyhalloween #diytoys #handmadebyme #handmadetoys
