Yoga Instructor • Health Coach  Travelling the World, Sharing my Journey 🇨🇿 14-16 Sept: Prague 🇺🇸 22-23 Sept: San Francisco 🇮🇪 6-7 Oct: Dublin Check out my events⬇️

When I began my life as a homeless nomad I had many nights that I would wake up almost breathless with fear. I was nearly paralysed with doubt and embarrassment in my decision to leave my comfortable little life behind .
.
But I knew deep down it would be fine and it’s because it wasn’t the first time in my life I’d taken a massive leap of faith into the unknown; relinquishing my control over my environment and opening myself to whatever my circumstances might bring .
.
Twice before I’d had “rock bottom” moments where I knew I could either carry on in my mildly comfortable but intensely unfulfilling life, or trust that a short term period of discomfort would be worth the long term benefits of changing my environment .
.
Therefore I believe like anything else, that leap into the unknown that seems to be the beginning of so many dreams coming true, is a skill. It’s something you can build the strength for. Start small with miniature leaps of faith or ventures towards your breaking point, like falling from a handstand or telling that person how you REALLY feel .
.
Life is a balancing act of letting go of expectations, and holding on to the inner peace and calm that nothing in the external world can touch . .
A piece of my practice this morning, full of falling. Because that’s life .

I’m no stranger to that place beyond the comfort zone. I mean, I take ice baths, I travel around the world solo, I’m a shy introvert who shares a large part of my life on social media 🙋🏻‍♀️ .
.
But those feelings of discomfort, of fear, and the thoughts of “Maybe I can quit and not go through with this” are always present when I’m about to leap into the unfamiliar, or do something I don’t quite feel ready for .
.
But they are merely thoughts. That’s all they are. They’re simply thoughts. I notice them. I observe them. And I recognise that they don’t have to control me. They won’t stop me from living the life I want to live .
.
By the way I’m falling in this photo. @sfreneenyc managed to capture me where it looks like I have the balance (maybe? Does it? 🤷🏻‍♀️) but I assure you I’m 0.5 seconds from losing the battle to gravity 😅 .

Flip Grip love! 🧡 Which one is your favourite?? .
There are many postures that offer the opportunity to flip the grip (grabbing the foot by reaching overhead) and many ways to get into a flipped grip! .
.
I will post a tutorial on this soon 👀 (keep a look out for it!) .
.
But until then you can swipe to see how I got into a few of these, each one with a slightly different technique for twisting the arm into place for flipped grip (complete with a few wobbles especially on the last one! 😆) .
.
This grip really opens the chest and shoulders, so it’s more intense. ✨As always, move slowly and mindfully. Treat every millimetre of movement as an asana in itself, pay attention to your body, and enjoy where you are. It’s not about the end goal. It’s the journey!✨ .

Splits flow! My practice is a constant enquiry. It becomes so meditative because I love tuning everything out and paying close attention to every little thing happening in my body. In every inch of movement .
.
For splits I have to do much more warm up on my left leg—low lunge to open up the right hip flexors, and half monkey pose for the left hamstrings and calves. But I love doing splits against the wall and in a handstand! .
.
Apart from the fact I’m just a handstand addict, I do also love changing the direction that gravity places on my splits, and paying close attention to what’s happening, if there’s a change to where I feel limitations, learning to understand better my body . .
This is how I always encourage others to practice. To tune out of the world beyond your body, and just let your body be your teacher. To move slowly and mindfully so you begin to understand your own body better .
.
Hope you’re all having a lovely Monday! I know I am 💚 .

Sometimes y’all send me messages with photos of you doing things I’ve posted to my feed or stories, and it’s super cool for me to see that! I love it! It’s what this IG platform is all about if you ask me — to inspire, share, and connect! .
.
But...just sayin, if you do this one...my obliques were sore for 3 days after this 😅 it’s a killer .

Omg my toes aren’t pointed 😱 Yesterday I posted to my story about being told by someone that my toes weren’t pointed correctly. I was accused of having “knuckle toes” 🙄🙄🙄 (flexed ankle, pointed toes) .
.
I’m also asked sometimes if it’s better to point or flex or “floint” .
.
Here’s the thing (go ahead and apply this to everything, not just toes/ankle flexion): don’t get stuck in one way of doing anything .
.
Don’t ALWAYS point, or always flex, or always floint. Variety is important and keeps it fun! .
.
Do your sun salutations with your feet wider than your mat. Or with your legs crossed .
.
If you always do cardio, do some anaerobic training. If you never do cardio—-do some cardio! Eat a variety of foods and mingle with a variety of people .
.
Maybe do a lizard type pose on a wall and turn the photo upside down, just to change things up a bit 🤙 .

Stretching is great 🤤 But it’s not how I got flexible... .
.
I think stretching—i.e. passively lengthening muscles—is wonderful and helps maintain flexibility. But the changes in my range of motion that I’ve seen over the years have come from where I’ve used STRENGTH .
.
Lengthening the muscles under stress, moving mindfully and with control, is what I understand to be how long term flexibility is obtained. It’s certainly what my practice has shown me in my own body’s transformation .
.
Please don’t misunderstand me when I say “stress” — I mean the good kind of stress. Not strain. Not pain. Just bringing the muscles into a state of activity, where they will grow! .
.
For hip flexors and quads, these camel drop backs are serious fun times 😈! .

How many instagram posts or other blogs or articles have you seen today suggesting ways to live life a bit better? Whether it’s adding something to your morning routine or supplementing your workout routine for better results, sometimes it’s overwhelming! .
.
I know sometimes I feel like all my meals should have every imaginable superfood in it, my morning routine should be about 7 hours long, and my workouts should strengthen and stretch and relax every single muscle fibre!! .
.
*sigh* First of all: take all those suggestions (including mine) with a pinch of salt and remember YOU are your own guru .
.
Secondly: variety!! You don’t have to do everything all the time. But equally don’t get stuck in routines or habits. Change up your breakfast, the pace of your asana practice, or your perspective! .
.
And keep breathing 🌬.

I’m pretty sure we ALL feel at times like we don’t have it together, but we look at others and see people who ostensibly DO have their 💩 together .
.
For me though (and maybe you’re the same), while there are definitely some aspects of life that I feel like I’m not in the drivers seat, there are other areas of life that, yeah 🤔, I’m doing okay .
.
And that’s why we have each other! That’s why community is so important . .
Strengths and weaknesses .
.
If you feel you haven’t got your 💩 together, take a closer look. I’m sure you’re helping others keep it together, and there are people who can help you where you struggle! .

When I was first learning to hold a handstand, I knew about the long list of alignment cues to do it “properly” but I forgot them all the second I was upside down! Anybody else? 😅 .
.
So I abandoned the idea of doing a perfect handstand with perfect alignment. I just focused on GETTING THE BALANCE 🤸🏻‍♀️ I had a banana back, my shoulders weren’t engaged, my hands were all wrong and it was sloppy. And guess what—I didn’t die!! .
.
I learned to balance. I learned how it felt to balance on my hands and from there, I cleaned up my form. I’m still cleaning up my form. It’s a journey! .
.
I just think that the best part of a handstand is actually being there in the balance. So find the balance. You can practice your alignment in other positions (like downward dog, and urdhva hastasana) so that your body learns what it’s supposed to be doing when upside down. But please don’t be afraid of doing something because it’s “wrong” 🙃 .
