Things carry emotions. My wrestling varsity jacket holds a lot of meaning to me. In fact, it was because of wrestling I got exposed to Chiropractic. I badly injured my neck during a match in a wrestling camp. And after days trying to recover with medications, heat, ice, and stretching with no relief, my mother decided to take me to her chiropractor.

After 3 visits, I was back at 100%. From there, I doubled the wins from the previous season, I won the Coaches Award, and later went on to become the Most Improved and Captain of my team in Senior year. So yeah, taking it back to the old school is where I have my roots, and it shows how I got to now. Had it not been for wrestling, I may have not become a chiropractor. .

This works on core stability with thoracic/upper back motion. What's also so versitile about this exercise is that it works in each plane of motion- 1) sagittal, 2) frontal, and 3) transverse/horizontal. This is the how you build stability in your core:

• Anti-rotation • Anti-lateral flexion

Hands shoulder width apart, palms down is how you want to hold the bar. Make sure that your leg is upright 90° in-line with your hip. Keep the bar close to your chest-- pull from shoulder to hip. Once you reach your hip with the bar, with hand on leg-up side- push the bar at chest level directly in front of you. .

I get questions about plantar fasciitis a lot. This mainly comes from inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament on the bottom of our foot. It can be caused by repetitive stresses from poor walking mechanics in our feet.

Rolling out your feet, Epsom salt warm foot baths, using anti-inflammatory supplements like turmeric, and stretching your calves are the best way to get on the road to recovery. Often times I will also find a talus and calcaneus (heel bone) misaligned in the feet that contribute to it.

WHAT DO YOUR FEET TELL YOU? 👣 The feet tell you a lot about what’s happening above them, at rest and during movement. ↪️ The posture (position) your feet are in is the result of what’s happening upstream. Your foot position is intimately related to how well you control the position of your pelvis and how well your hips are able to function as a result of this. ➡️ The stability, strength, and control of your hips and pelvic musculature determines whether you can maintain control of every joint beneath them, and therefore maintain the desired position of your joints at rest and during movement. 🔑 It comes down to having control over your joints, and attaining/maintaining the desired joint positions as you move. 👣 The feet can grant your body a huge amount of stability IF they are in a good position. If you can use your hips and pelvic control to get your feet where you want them, then they have a huge amount of intrinsic muscles that can work to your advantage. But the feet need to be in a desirable position (posture) in order to work optimally. 🔑 All of this can be worked on and changed. The body changes and adapts to what you expose it to. Learning to control your body requires attention and focus at the start, but is essential for overall musculoskeletal/joint health.

The biggest culprit in lower back pain- the iliopsoas or psoas muscle. .

It's main action is hip flexion, however the diaphragm and your seated positions in life can affect the length of the psoas muscle as well. It is the only muscle in the body that directly attaches from the spine to the legs. .

A big aspect of much lower back pain can also be due to dehydration. In #appliedkinesiology and #tcm the #psoas can often show as a kidney meridian issue, and may be even due to a misaligned talus bone in either foot. This can throw off gait mechanics.

Also interesting, in #neuroemotionaltechnique the most commonly associated emotion with the kidney is fear. This is why people who can get lost in the woods will travel in circles. The shortened psoas muscle can change the leg length of the individual's stride.

Sugar🍬 is a huge culprit for many issues (chronic or acute) that we may be dealing with in our health. This particular case, this patient is in his early twenties, very wired and tense kind of personality. Says he's been under stress for a while (he's a student 📚). I asked him about how much sugar he was having in his diet, and if just for 1 month he could go off of it.

In Chinese Medicine #tcm which often deals with tongue reading for health indications, a white tongue (left) much of the time deals with what's called "oral thrush"- which is basically a yeast infection, and it can lead to a weakened immune system. Sugar feeds into this! And as you can see on the right, when the patient gave up a lot of sugar, he had much more of a red-healthy tongue 👅 .

Your big toe needs to be mobile and involved in your walking pattern ✔️
➡️ The majority of PROPULSION happens at toe-off in your walking (and running) pattern. Your big toe plays a huge role in propulsion - it helps create a rigid lever via the WINDLASS mechanism.
↪️ The windlass mechanism occurs when you toe-off (and your big toe extends). This winds the plantar fascia up like a cable and brings up the medial arch of the foot in the process. All of this allows you to efficiently propel yourself forward, with the help of things upstream like your GLUTES.
☑️ That being said, here are some things to consider:
✅ Big toe mobility: You need your big toe to actually move enough to allow for efficient toe-off from a biomechanical standpoint.
✅ Ankle mobility: You need enough ankle dorsiflexion to allow you to fully make use of your big toe at toe-off when walking.
✅ Hip extension: Your hip needs to extend enough to allow the ankle and foot/toe to do their thing while walking.
✅ Patterning it: Be mindful of how you walk and reprogram it if you need to. Think about getting an efficient toe-off. You should feel your glute help propel you forward right at toe-off. It should feel smooth and efficient.
✅ Shoes: choose a shoe that actually allows your foot and toes (especially big toe) to do all this. A rigid or crammed toe box will hinder this, and a heel will throw a curve ball into your walking pattern as well
