Many patients I see that come in with knee, low back, and even neck pain have a large intestine issue. This can come arise from a few different aspects of their health. These can be solely or in combination with a physical, chemical, and/or emotional stressor.

The physical stressor can be attributed to hip and pelvic misalignments, which can often be exacerbated by poor foot mechanics during walking or running. It can also be due to poor arch support in your shoes as well. A major factor is the fact that many of our jobs today require us to sit down all day, and sitting can immensely change the pelvic mechanics.

The emotion that is most attributed to the large intestine is 'Dogmatically Positioned'. This can relate to work or home life in terms of the feeling of feeling 'stuck' in your current life situation.
The chemical component comes down to our own diet. It may be a lack of gut bacteria. It may also be related to an iron deficiency in the individual. It can also be attributed to a poor absorption in your colon.

The most important aspect of a proper diagnosis is a good history and finding out the cause of iliotibial band (ITB) pain. Have questions? Comment below!

This was an unexpected plaque I got in the mail today at work. I recently joined the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK) for their continuing education material, as well as their information in regards to helping patients find underlying issues contributing to their poor health patterns. I plan on being a member for a very long time, and I will always be a lifetime student of the human condition as a chiropractor and as a doctor.

Every new patient I see in the office following their first visit has 2 main things to do: 1) put heat on the chief complaint area and 2) drink plenty of water. The aim should be to drink half of your body weight in ounces. So for a 200 lb male, his goal should be to drink 100 oz of water, and even more than that if they are an athlete.
I know it seems obvious enough that we need to drink enough water to carry out daily functions, but many patients still neglect to get the proper amount they need. This can also include the natural water content in fruits and vegetables such as watermelon and cucumbers.
Ailments like headaches, fatigue and even muscle cramping are huge signs of dehydration. Preferable sources should come from mineral water, filtered water and reverse osmosis for the best quality.

@Regrann from @fischerhealth This diagram is known as the "Reminder-Routine-Reward" model. We as humans beings need organized systems in place in order to change #behavior , and based on the #outcome, it develops a #pattern of #routine in our lives.
Just like when someone uses an alarm clock to wake themselves up in the morning for work or school, certain cues or reminders help guide us in a direction for positive change.
For starters, try setting calendar reminders for events on your smart phone in advance; lay out your clothes for your workday the night before; food prep your meals for the week; leave sticky notes by your desk for work you need to accomplish. As an example, when I need to motivate myself to take out the trash, I leave it right in front of my door so I am forced later on to take it out. Be creative with your habits, because #change does take time. The rewards come from repetition and self-motivation.

I always like to #test myself at various points in the year no matter what my goal for training is. At this current time, I have been shifting my focus more towards endurance and power lifting at about an 80/20 ratio.
I was going for 2 reps at 495 lbs, and unfortunately I only got one. But we always grow by learning from our mistakes. I know I need to tweak my technique, and now I have something to work towards. I'm still thankful I have the strength I do now, which has taken over a decade to achieve. It's just about making those little changes every day to improve.

Doing some spring cleaning a tad bit late, when I find this in my things... toughest academic class I've ever taken in my life! My career of 2 years now rested on just passing this class...and I did, the 1st time, and being the leader of my group. To this day, I have no idea how I did it.
Being diagnosed with learning disabilities at a young age was already a struggle, having to work twice as hard just to keep up with the class. But you can't replace hard work and tenacity, especially when you strive for something you want.
Now that I've been in this profession for the last 2 years, I've really had it sink in that this is the hard work paying off moment. It's almost as if I've had a relief of emotional 'debts' finally paid off. And I'll settle for that since my student loans are a totally different story. But still, this class was the dragon I had to slay to get the reward of doing what I want to do with my life. the biggest the challenge, the bigger the reward. And as cliche as it may seem, if I can do it, anyone can. We will all have challenges in our own respective ways. We just have to encourage one another.

In traditional Chinese medicine, issues with certain organs are associated with certain emotions. Scientists now have discovered a connection between emotions and neuropeptides, which are released from cells and is responsible for the function of hormones, endorphins, cortisol and adrenaline. Each emotion has a certain frequency that when released, our bodies also release a specific, correlating neuropeptide. Shout out to @savoryspiceshop in Encinitas, CA. These spices have great applications to vegetables, seafood, meat, snd even your morning oatmeal.
What we have right here is 'Cuban Island Spice' mixed in with some steamed broccoli and also with quinoa. I also tried mixing some of the 'Hawaii Black Lava Sea Salt' with some steamed asparagus. All 3 turned out to taste amazing.

This past week was almost an awakening for me because of all the various aches and pains I had from a very busy work week. As a #chiropractor my job is incredibly physical in the delivery and #stability of better functioning health. This has been going on for a while I must admit, and I knew I needed to make a change.

I've always understood that #diet to exercise is 80/20 for the most part, and due to growing up on the standard American diet I have been severely addicted to #sugar. To ultimately 'fix' a person's diet to get their body going in the right direction of healing, the biggest predators are: wheat, corn, dairy, soy, and SUGAR. I will also admit, I wasn't leading by example as a #health professional. And I believe true leaders lead by example.

As you see, I'm trying to surround myself with better food choices than I previously have been. And just like everything in life, you need a #balance. Which is why I am not going full vegan or vegetarian just yet at this point in my life. #change takes time. And I gradually want to still keep the food choices in my life that I love. But I know I need to know when to set limits. It's a matter of #discipline as well.
I always want to educate to motivate people about health, and how #chiropractic is a start in the #healthy direction.

Finally finished reading this book, and I loved it. From A to Z and inside-out, Dr. Carolyn Dean discusses everything to know about magnesium.
She goes into how magnesium affects conditions like: Anxiety and depression; to how magnesium helps with migraines and pain; muscle cramping and fatigue; cholesterol and hypertension; to even magnesium's effect on obesity and heart disease.
I highly recommend this book for anyone and everyone who wants to seek answers into better functioning health.
