I’ve been thinking a lot this week about what motivates us to make a change. When I first stepped into the gym nearly 7 years ago, I had been chubby for pretty much my entire life. When I went to workout, my intention was to be liked more and to be attractive to a guy I liked at the time, but that mentality was never fulfilling. I lost about 30 pounds, but I didn’t set the foundation for sustainability because I wasn’t factoring myself and my happiness into the equation.
At the end of the day, I lost motivation because I was constantly comparing myself to others and hating how slow the progress was.
This time last year, I gave it a shot again. I have been lifting consistently since then, but I still hadn’t gotten my diet in check. I knew what to do to hit my physique goals, but I also knew excuses to keep me from putting them into practice. The biggest change in me over the last month and a half has been the fact that challenge is 100% for me and my personal growth: both physically and mentally. Yeah, I slipped a little last week, but I’m establishing a new status quo for myself. I’m striving to be better for myself and myself alone.

Tampa. Boston. Washington D.C. Houston. Austin. Dallas. We are all on different paths, but converged this weekend to get a little piece of the past. These pics are only the tip of the iceberg, but we got a little piece of perfection this weekend. Wow, just wow. Here is progress pic #4 for the #gymshark66 challenge. It’s only really become apparent in the last week that changes are occurring. Clothes are fitting looser, my body is more appreciative of a balanced diet, and I’m more driven than ever to make this lifestyle work. I did not realize how much fat I’d lost until putting these pics side by side. This is a 4 week difference. Progress pic #3 for the @gymshark challenge! Today I was at the grocery store and I was actually really excited. I saw how nice the zucchinis and bananas looked and I shamelessly took some pics.

I have been doing quite a bit of research to find the perfect recipes to keep me on track. There’s a saying that goes “abs are made in the kitchen.” I’d heard this time and time again, knowing what proper nutrition could do for my progress in the gym, but not really putting it into practice.
Not only have I started to feel better, but I have also let go of feelings of regret when I decide to splurge on a meal. The difference is, now my cheat meal is planned and I get something to look forward to every week. Just like we have to budget our money, I see my consumption of nutrients like a budget and it makes it easier to work with because I’m being strategic about calories and essential macros.

Never been a hoop kinda girl, but I thought, “why not try something new?” 🤷🏻‍♀️

A little midweek motivation... i just got these and a purple pair of gymshark seamless leggings at the beginning of this #gymshark66 challenge thinking that they would need to be a my goal pairs, but lo and behold, they fit like a dream. As far as my progress? I’ve always been a bit of a stress eater and I’m starting to feel the challenge of this change in a different way this week. I’m learning about self-discipline and pushing myself to resist urges. So proud of how much progress I’ve already been able to make, in more than just my diet, and I can wait to see what the next 47 days (and beyond) bring! @gymshark @gymsharkwomen

Aaaaand as promised, here’s progress pic #2. In honor of the second photo, I wore the leggings from my second @gymshark order 💪🏼 As I was entering the locker room today, I noticed the scale. I have been trying to focus on the change I see instead of the number on the scale, but out of curiosity, I hopped on. What was the result? I LOST 6 pounds in the week!! Last Sunday, I was mortified to learn that I was 218 lbs

As I began my workout, I got to thinking about the number 212. “At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam. And with steam, you can power a train.” -SL Parker

For a while, I just worked out without going all in. My mentality was at 211 degrees, but on 1st Jan, I reached my boiling point. I’m all in now and the support I’ve been getting has been pushing me even more. I’m so proud of this small win today and couldn’t be happier to see what the next week brings.
